Editing Talk:Chinese written language: Cantonese (also other southern variants such as Min, Wu and Hakka) does retain more consonant word endings from older varieties of Chinese, but I think it's inaccurate and misleading to say it is "more conservative than Mandarin", as it seems to imply that Cantonese somehow has changed less or is more similar to older varieties of Chinese
