Geography

Atarra is located at 25°17′N 80°34′E / 25.28°N 80.57°E / 25.28; 80.57[1]. It has an average elevation of 124 metres (406 feet). There is a post graduate college known as Atarra Degree College(ADC), Atarra and a Govt. Ayurvedic college. There are number of good schools some of them are Hindu Inter college, Saraswati Inter college, Bramha Vigyan Inter college etc. There is a tehsil,thana and Railway station. A Religious place CHITRAKOOT is located 30 km from Atarra, which is khown for 14 years "vanwash" of Hindu Lord Shri Ram

Demographics

As of 2001 India censusTemplate:GR, Atarra had a population of 42,434. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Atarra has an average literacy rate of 61%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 62% of the males and 38% of females literate. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.
