Navalram Jagnnath Trivedi (1895-1944) was a Gujarati writer, critic and editor. He served as a secretary of Gujarat Sahitya Sabha for twenty years.[1]

Life

Trivedi was born 11 October 1895 in Wadhwan in Audichya Sahastra Brahmin family. He completed schooling at Wadhwan Camp and passed his matriculation in 1914. After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1920, he started his career as a professor at Lalshankar Gujarati Mahila Pathashala. In 1926 (1916[2]), he completed his Master of Arts. He died on 18 May 1944 (8 May[2]) at Ahmedabad.[1][2]

Works

He wrote humorous writing under three pen-names: Vainetey, Ponipachis and Daberi.[3]

His works of criticism include Ketlak Vivechano, Nava Vivechano, Shesh Vivechano and Samajsudhara Nu Rekhadarshan.[4] Critics noted his criticism for its Comparative approach.[3]

His book “Gramymata” was published in 1938. It is containing simple easy to understand selected poems useful to School and College students from ‘Kalapi no Kekarav” a book earlier published by Poet Shri Kant.

In 1939 Gujarat vernacular Society assigned him to write an independent book on Kalapi. This book was titled “Hraday Triputi and other poems”. At the beginning of this book in order to give idea about personal and married life of Kalapi and his work to readers what Shri. Kanailal Munshi had written in ‘Kalapi Album’ is reproduced. |}
