The Independent Newspapers Ltd (INL) was incorporated on July 17, 2001. It started operations in October 2001. Independent Newspapers, with its maiden publication on October 1, 2001, publishes DAILY Independent, a five-day-a-week newspaper and the weekend titles - SATURDAY Independent and SUNDAY Independent. The company is based in Lagos and the three titles are published in Nigeria.[1]
Daily Independent, Saturday Independent and Sunday Independent are the most read newspapers among the political and business elite in Nigeria. Indeed, Daily Independent won award as best Newspaper of the year in Nigeria between 2006 and 2007.
The Editorial Policy is founded on liberal principles, with the principal aim of encouraging all Nigerians to aspire to move our great country to position of eminence in the comity of nations.
The media seeks a greater Nigeria and is driven by a vision of a country where access to opportunities is based on merit, equity and fair play. Our energies find expression in the larger issues, which affect Nigeria as a whole. We reflect in fair manner, the aspirations, interests and character of the Nigerian people. We always articulate centrist persuasions.
Currently, Independent Newspapers Ltd is operating as a frontline multimedia publishing enterprise in Nigeria and beyond. The idea is to leverage our re-modelled newsroom for the delivery of news and information in multimedia formats across digital and print configurations.
The vision seeks to position the company as a preferred vehicle for development and transmission of high quality contents to consumers across Nigeria and the virtual world on various online platform applications like hand held devices, tablets, PCs and other internet enabled devices.
The print arm now enables simultaneous satellite printing of the three titles from three strategic locations in Lagos, Abuja and Asaba, catering to the targeted news and information needs of specific groups in these three hubs.
