Need help request from Rafamatalon1234 (talk)

Hi

My name is Rafael Matalon and I'm a student of the University Writing class with professor Azar from George Washington University (GWU). As you must know by now, we are doing a project on Wikipedia to edit a page on the platform. I'm working with Jaredgoz in a group. We still haven't proposed our changes to the community, because I think is the last part of the project. If you could, I would like for you to give me feedback on the amount of content of my sandbox, good use of citations, visual text, etc.

I'm waiting to hear back from you, Rafael Matalon

Need help request from Samwolff450 (talk)

Hello. My name is Sam Wolff and I am a student In professor Azar's English class. I am part of a group with Cara Lee, Graham Hurley, and Madison Wright working on the Wikipedia page "Haunted Dolls". Personally, I have added a section called "Haunted dolls in pop culture." In my class, we have done one big round of peer editing. You can find my work on my sandbox. I need help with general Wikipedia editing. Since this is my first time writing for Wikipedia I have little experience with Wikipedia's conventions and styles. That is where I would benefit most with editing.

Need help request from Koko413 (talk)

Hello.

I am I-Lun Ko, and I have Christal Cao, Samuel Zhao, and Jason Kung in my UW project group. We are editing the Wikipedia page of Fast Food in China. I am working on the part of fast food in China v.s fast food in U.S. I have a question about how I should organize my section. I am planning on providing some examples from various large fast food company such as Pizza Hut, McDonald's, or Starbucks. I was also panning on analyzing why companies are chaning their marketing strategy in China, and who are the competitors of these fast food companies.Koko413 (talk) 03:05, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing a wrong sig

Hi Shalor, when you forget you're logged into your other account and sign a response with it, as you did here (diff), you don't have to go into explanations about it, you can just re-login to your WMF account, edit the response, remove the old sig, and readd your '~~~~'. This is perfectly acceptable per WP:REDACT. Exception: when someone has already responded to your original comment, or a lot of time has elapsed. But otherwise, feel free to simply change the sig to the correct one; it's easier, and faster. And probably less confusing for the student, as well. Win-win. Need help request from Isabelleshegog (talk)

Hi, my name is Isabelle and I am trying to add a subsection to a page on gender stereotypes in film genres. In this project I am at the stage where I believe I am finished writing and am looking for feedback to make sure it looks good and ready to submit as well as making sure that I provide both valid and enough information. Need help request from Isamouse79 (talk)

Hello! My name is Isa (Isamouse79), and I am a student at the George Washington University, writing in the "George_Washington_University/UW1020_M82_(Spring)" group for my writing class. Together with my group members, SocksOfDeath and Syndeycurrie5, I am working on editing and enhancing the currently-existing Wikipedia article on Dr. Elizabeth Gould Bell (titled "Elizabeth Bell (Doctor)").

Currently, we are working on translating our research into "Family and Marriage," "Education," "Professional Life," and "Political Activism" sections, to ensure we have narrated all of the important parts of Gould Bell's life as effectively as possible. We have not yet finished each section, but have split up the work and our trying our best to be as comprehensive as possible. Some of our work may overlap currently, but we will consolidate and condense our writings together later in the project, in the upcoming weeks. I personally, have the task of helping write the "Family and Marriage" and "Professional Life" sections. As of now, my teammates and I have not yet posted to the original Wikipedia article's "Talk" page. We will do so, however. As per our professor's guidelines, we are making sure that what we have to show to the original article's Talk page is our best work.

Currently, I would love your feedback on my work so far. Do you think that it is comprehensive enough? Are there any syntax errors or bulky sentences that I should fix? I have gotten feedback from my peers that I should include more information about the meeting of Elizabeth Bell and her husband Hugo. However, I have not been able to find such information from my sources, and the sources that my teammates and I found encompass the majority of the sources can be found about Elizabeth Gould Bell from libraries and on the internet. How do you suggest I address this concern-- should I simply state that it is not known how Elizabeth and Hugo met?If there is anything else that I have not mentioned but you think I should fix about my article about it, please let me know!

Thank you so much for your help,

Need help request from Mtatherton18 (talk)

Good afternoon,

My name is Morgan Atherton and I'm in Professor Azar's class. My group is working on the article for Feminism in China (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism_in_China) and I specifically have been working on adding two new paragraphs. One paragraph is about Li Xiaojiang and the other on He-Yin Zhen. At this point, I have made a few edits based on feedback from my group and the class. The other people in my group are Montana Nelson, Barbora Lehka, and Rebecca Lee. I have not yet posted my paragraphs to the talk page, but I will. I would like feedback on the structure and language of my sentences, especially in the first paragraph. I would also like feedback on whether my paragraphs have any content gaps, or whether information should be added or taken out. Thank you for your help, Mtatherton18 (talk) 18:05, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:CalebPhelps99

Hi again Shalor. I think CalebPhelps99 is another one of your students. He's trying to write an article about a video game at User:CalebPhelps99/sandbox, but he's having problems with images like File:The Heist.jpg. Caleb might not fully understand that any screenshot he thinks he's "creating" is almost certainly to be copyrighted by someone else, unless he's the actual designer/creator of game. FWIW, in an article about a video game, one non-free image of the product packaging is generally allowed for primary identification purposes and then one in-game screenshot is generally allowed for representative purposes in the gameplay section; any thing beyond that becomes much harder to justify and almost always requires some specific sourced critical commentary about the screenshot for it to meet WP:NFC#CS usually because of some technical/controversial aspect about it that received covered in reliable sources. Non-free screenshots are not really going to be accepted just to "show" plot points or certain features, especially redundant screenshots. It appears (at least first glance) that Caleb has otherwise done quite a good job with the draft outside of the images, but the images are the things which are going to create problems if he continues to upload them without proper licensing. Anyway, the image notifications are going to start adding up on Caleb's user talk if he continues to try and upload/add images to his sandbox; so, it might be a good idea to suggest he focus on the other stuff and leave the images until after the draft has been approved as an article. I was going to suggest this to him directly, but I wanted to run it by you first since you have more experience at interacting with these students. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:49, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.

I need help with...submitting my page for review.

--Whitakeml (talk) 03:52, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shalor (Wiki Ed). This appears to have been mistakenly moved to another page in the username space by it's creator Jolynnperez, who seems to be one of the students you're helping. It might be better to move this to the draft namespace instead and submit it for WP:AFC review or merge some of the content into one of the already existing articles on polygamy, Utah or Mormonism since it kind of has a WP:CONTENTFORK feel to it, but that's my personal opinion. Regardless, the page is likely going to end up tagged for speedy deletion per WP:FAKEARTICLE if it's not moved back to the Jolynnperez's sandbox, or to the draft namespace. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:11, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

JJMC89 moved the page back to the student’s sandbox, but the student then re-moved the page once again; this time to Utah Polygamy and Law Since 2000. Putting aside opinions as to whether this is a content fork, there’s some MOS issues that need to be sorted. The title capitalization seems wrong which might mean another move is needed, while the first subsection’s title and article’s title probably shouldn’t be identical and the capitalization of the remaining section headings also needs tweaking. These are relatively straightforward tweaks, but currently there’s also no real lead for the article and there also be the need for some re-writing of other parts as well, which is a more significant change. I’m not sure whether the student understands that their work is pretty much fair game for anyone to edit now that they’ve moved their work to the mainspace, while anyone trying to clean things up may not be aware that their efforts may directly impact the grade the student receives. — Marchjuly (talk) 20:37, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Marchjuly: wrote,

while anyone trying to clean things up may not be aware that their efforts may directly impact the grade the student receives.

I certainly hope you’re mistaken about that, or that I’m mistaken in my interpretation of it, because this is still the encyclopedia that anyone can edit. If professors are unable to grade student efforts without a hands-off policy on the part of the other 5.6 million editors, then something is rotten in Denmark. If their article is in Draft namespace, it’s still fair game but I might give a student some leeway, but I won’t promise it. If they want to be left alone to edit, they should use a User draft, or leave it in their sandbox. We follow WP policies here, not those of universities or professors. Mathglot (talk) 02:31, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No not mistaken, and this is one of the reasons why I think it's not really a good idea for these students to move their own drafts to the mainspace. There've been cases in the past where such pages utimately ended up deleted because the content simply wasn't suited for the mainspace. It seems that some of these class projects set "moving the draft" to the mainspace as one ot the things they want the students to do. Some teachers apparently do grade on all the steps followed to reach the final submitted draft, not just the final draft; even so, I personally think it would be better for the students to submit the final draft for AfC review instead of moving it themselves, but the time it takes to do this often doesn't not fit the schedule of the course. The WikiEd advisors try to make this clear to the students and teachers participating in these programs, but they can only do so much. This has come up before at Wikipedia:Education noticeboard, but it can be tricky to deal with if the teacher isn't very familiar with Wikipedia since most of the students are going to look to their teacher, not the Wikipedia community, for adivce and it's the teacher, not the Wikipedia community, doing the actual grading. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:07, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Marchjuly, Mathglot, thank you for letting me know about this! We encourage instructors to grade students on their work and effort as opposed to what sticks. By this I mean that they would look in the article history to see the student's original work or they would try to get a copy of the material to grade if it was removed from Wikipedia. We definitely do not want live student work to go without being edited and improved, if it is necessary. I'm actually going to move this back to their userspace, as this looks to be redundant to the existing article on Current state of polygamy in the Latter Day Saint movement, as the article looks to be predominantly about this specific topic as opposed to general polygamy. There are also a number of issues to boot, which I'll address with the student while also warning them not to move the page live again. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:58, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am in a group with three other members, Daniela Mastronardi, Doug Sitt, and Marissa Lazarus. I have yet to post in the talk page, though once I make the final edits on my section I would like to.

I would appreciate if you could offer feedback on my writing, but more specifically my history section. I would like to add more information, though I do not want to overload it with unnecessary details. If you could offer any critiques that would help me build the section I would appreciate it!

Nowiki tag?

Hello Shalor,

Thanks for helping us with our research lab, we really appreciate it! I moved an article draft out of my sandbox (Neuroprivacy), but deleted most of it as I only wanted to uploaded my lead section to the mainspace. Later, another user undid my deletion, which resulted in my entire article being reuploaded to the mainspace. The same user added my article to the "Neuroscience" and "Privacy" categories, and also tagged my article with the "nowiki" tag. I think my article being reinstated and added to categories is a good thing, but do you have an idea of what the "nowiki" tag means? I tried looking it up but wasn't sure exactly what it meant. Thank you so much!

Need help request from Fudymben (talk)

Hello.

My name is Benjamin Fudym and I'm working on the "Catacombs of Rome" article, my other group members are Henry, Ricky and Benita. I'm currently in the stage where I'm synthesizing information that I've found to best put it in Wikipedia article form. With the current info, I have on my page the best kind of feedback would be if I am on the right track and if the info I have is suitable to be put on the site.

thanks very much

Need help request from Dmastronardi (talk)

Hi,

My names Daniela Mastronardi and I am working on the Russian Fairy Tale Wikipedia page with Amaya Ruiz, Doug Sitt, and Marisa Lazarus. I am at the point where I am editing mostly grammar. I would really appreciate it if you would take a look at my sentence structure and let me know if I should make any changes with the overall structure of my section.

Thank you, --Dmastronardi (talk) 14:35, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

about our eugenic feminism article

Hello this is Celestine Shek. I have some additional questions about our eugenic feminism article. So at this point, would it be a good idea to change it into "The timeline of eugenic feminism in the United States instead? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shekcelestine (talkcontribs) 15:24, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help Request from liam mcb19

Hi Shalor! It looks like you've been assigned to help out my class this semester and I have one item I'd like to clarify. When writing sections on plot summaries and major characters for an article on a book, do I need to have references? And, can I simply reference a page number from the book the article is about to support specific factual (not interpretative) details? Thank you so much! --Liam mcb19 (talk) 02:23, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jonahx11!

Hi. A student from Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/Bowling Green State University/Sexuality and Politics (Spring 2019) just added this to Transgender people in sports. Another editor rightfully reverted it, although were probably a bit harsh in the edit summary. Any way I though I would give you heads up as you are listed as the content expert and there is obviously issues with the content. Also they may need some reassurance after it was reverted. Thanks AIRcorn (talk) 03:45, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:shek celestine about our eugenic feminism page

Hello! this is Celestine Shek, and me and my partner wrote an article about eugenic feminism. We put our article on a an existing eugenic feminism page, and some of our paragraphs were deleted by an editor a few times. We want to create a new page, a timeline of eugenic feminism. We were wondering if we should tell the editor about our plans of making a new timeline. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shekcelestine (talkcontribs) 02:38, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need help request from Awhite07 (talk)

Hello. The article I am editing is postmodern feminism. I am responsible for adding detailed information to the lead section. I have not posted to the Talk Page yet because I need help with organizing my section. I am having trouble with prioritizing what information should come first and/or what information I should include in the section. The other group members helping with editing are Dayla Durandisse and Sophie Ballak. I would greatly appreciate any advice you have for me.

Sincerely, Asiah

(Another) Help Request from liam mcb19

Hi Shalor! Our teacher expressed a desire for us to include a picture of a book cover on our article about a novel. Of course, the book is copyrighted. Would you outline how we might be able to get permission or justification to add such a picture to our article, or direct me to a resource about it? I looked through my course's training modules but didn't see anything dealing with how to get permission to upload a copyrighted image. Thank you! --Liam mcb19 (talk) 18:04, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need help

Hello.

I need help with, making my own character page for a video game called rainbow six siege. Its for a class assignment. I want to create a page for my mains ( Who i use the most.) They are both Navy seals. (fictional characters) One is named Valkery (Valk) and another is BlackBeard. I want to talk about their abilities, and bio's. What the game has given me and the Rainbow six siege community. I follow the creators very well (Ubisoft) and their updates. I have been playing the game for about 4 years in December it will be five. With these two operators together I have around 6,000 kills. But that is not relevant i want to talk about the operators and what they have done. In the game they have a bio section and its a small background of what the creators gave us, but there is a lot of common conspiracy's after what the creators have given us and what we think happens after that, during, and what they are doing now. None have be retired yet, but out of the whole 45 operators there are some old ones, Valk and BlackBeard are in their early and mid thirties. I also want to talk about what we think these two will do after words and what the community thinks. Both of these characters are loved and hated by the community. The developers hate Blackbeard because every season he gets a Nerf ( fixed to make the game better and him weaker) Or a buff ( fixed to make the game better and him stronger) For the past 2 years and 8-10 season he has been changed so much its hard to enjoy playing with him anymore. One season his shield goes from 10 bullets to 2 bullets to break and he gets slower or faster. The shield gets heavier or lighter and sometimes he gets slower because the shield is so heavy but it is weaker, sometimes people can find soft spots in his shield to where it will break after a single shot, and it takes him forever to replace it with his second shield and hes to slow to find cover or get to it.
