Undergraduate honors program

The Undergraduate Honors Program is a new program for students mainly in the United States and Australia during their undergraduate studies.

Description

The Undergraduate Honors Program differs from an ‘Honorary Degree’ and does not have a higher honorary degree award, but the degree is more effective than a research master.[1] In most cases, the school adds one year of research-based learning to help students get a better career entry, and only top 5% of students can get a diploma. [2]Honors students have a very high degree of recognition, and Honors student is favored by multinational corporations and government agencies, and there is almost no pressure for job hunting. The honors program is helping the children find their own path of development and paving the way for their future life. [3]

How to promote students' success?

Honors program is extended on the basis of the university curriculum. There is almost no difference between college life in the first three years and ordinary college students, but the school pays more attention to the development of students besides academic achievement (General education).  In the final year of the honors program, students will develop their studies and future plans based on a number of projects and will evaluate their projects dozens of hours a week.  

Selection criteria

How many grades do students need?

The author gives detailed minimum criteria for this program, which is a minimum SAT score of 1200. As well as high school GPA of 3.5 or AP courses record score will be counted. Not all types of students can join in this honors program.

GPA of 3.8 for high school student and 3.3 is required for current student

Why undergraduate honors program is beneficial for most of students?   

for most of students, who participated in this program have achieved great satisfaction and pride in the program. Students showed great enthusiasm in this project and actively communicated with the demonstrator.

What contribution can this program make to students and society?

The Undergraduate Honors Program is a great challenge for many students who seek a rigorous learning program and strive to realize their potential.   


The teacher of the course surveyed students’ attitudes and values to in order to achieve the goal value of the honors program. It can be seen that over 1/3 of students are more open be valuing of other cultures. By allowing students to answer global social questions, students have shown a tremendously inclusive response that has made the honors program more powerful. The students clearly expressed their desire to contribute to society and others.
