Zoe Perry (born September 26, 1983)[2] is an American actress. She is best known for portraying young Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon and for recurring roles on The Family and Scandal.
Personal Life
Perry was born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles by her parents, actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry (American actor). Her parents divorced when she was 3 years old but she remembers nothing of it.
Perry is the stepdaughter of Grey's Anatomy casting director Linda Lowy. She is the oldest child of her family and has two younger half sisters and two younger half brothers.
Career
Her first television role was two appearances as the character Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother.[3] Her parents, however, did not want her to pursue acting until she became an adult, fearing the effect of stress.[4] Perry said she was too shy to act in high school, but began performing at Northwestern University,[4] as a way to make friends after transferring from Boston University.[5]
After graduating, Perry moved to New York to search for television work, landing small roles on series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but homesickness brought her back to California, where she found theater work.[5] In 2013, she performed in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother.[5]
In 2015 Perry performed alongside her Father Jeff Perry (American actor) and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles.
Perry appeared in nine episodes of ABC thriller The Family in 2016.[6] In 2017, she had a recurring role on the ABC political thriller Scandal, starring her father.[3][7] The same year she was cast as a younger version of Sheldon Cooper's mother Mary on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, again portraying a younger version of her mother's role.[3] Despite her family link to the character, she received the role through an audition.[3][7]
In December 2018, Perry was nominated for a Critics' Choice Award for the best supporting actress in a comedy series competing against her own mother who was nominated in the same category for her role in The Conners; neither of them won.
