Welcome to WikiProject Dad's Army talk page. If you have any problems please discuss them here and we will reply with the soultions.

Advertising

We also must start advertising the project a lot more. I have placed an advert on the Community portal looking for new members and the members of this project should advertise this project as much as possible. For example, when welcoming new members recommend the project to them and also if you join other projects recommend the project to those people. --Mollsmolyneux 11:20, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Members Role call

At the moment I am wondering how many members are active and regularly visiting this page, so therefore I am calling a role. If you wish to continue helping out with this project please put the word here in bold next to your name. Anyone who does not do this will be moved to the inactive members list. Thankyou very much. --Mollsmolyneux 11:13, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article on missing episodes?

Would there be much scope for a Dad's Army missing episodes article, akin to Doctor Who missing episodes? The return of two season two episodes a few years ago has brought the issues to widespread attention and an article could explain (if people know enough about the subjects):

  • Why all 80 episodes weren't retained on the original broadcast masters
  • Why some episodes were never lost
  • Why one, and only one, of the colour episodes now only exists in black and white
  • How episodes were recovered from overseas (are they all PAL copies?) and elsewhere
  • Any problems with the episodes remaining (e.g. edits to the only copies, signficant tape damage, problems that had to be overcome for the DVD releases which appear to have had restoration work done on them)

A lot of this is covered in various places and aluded to in some articles but a single page may be good for this. But before I make an attempt to put a skeleton together what does everyone else think? Timrollpickering 20:38, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Translation

I think it is time to translate some of the articles on Dad's Army into other languages. Please if you think this the right way to go then leave your vote below, then if it all adds up I will start creating pages for it.

I have been having a go at a simple English version for the Simple English Wikipedia. What do you think are the most vital elements to put in? I was thinking a simple plot of who the Home Guard were and a brief synopsis of the characters would be appropriate, maybe mentioning a few famous scenes, etc. Bob talk 11:40, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings

I've just joined today, but am a great fan of Dad's Army. I've added to the David Croft article and also have a book I bought recently, the story of Dads army, which had episode summaries for every episode, which I will attempt to get done at some point (half term and all :)). Is there anywhere where I can put useful links for other members to use? Thanks, RHB 22:10, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Project Directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:

and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now put the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 00:39, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Project banner on talk page

I think banners are now on every single page that requires it, unless of course the lists I looked at were incomplete. A few minor character pages might not have them either. Please point out to me if I've messed something up. Thanks RHB 00:00, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
