Christine Nelson

Christine Nelson, aka Spike, is a fictional character on the Degrassi series played by Amanda Stepto. Her first appearance in the series was as a grade 8 student on Degrassi Junior High, and was most remembered as the teenage girl with the blonde spiked hairdo, hence her nickname, who got pregnant (by Shane McKay). On Degrassi: The Next Generation, she is known as the mother to Emma Nelson. She is also married to Archie "Snake" Simpson with whom she has a son named Jack.

Before Snake and Spike got married, Spike found out she was pregnant but didn’t tell Snake because he said he didn’t want kids because he has too much on his plate. She goes so far as to contemplate abortion. Emma becomes furious with her for wanting to abort the pregnancy. and tells Snake who’s at Joey’s for his bachelor party. Snake is stunned and is angry that Emma had to tell him and that Spike didn’t. On the day of her and Snake’s wedding, Spike tells Snake about the baby who reacts opposite to her expectations. They get back together and arrive to their wedding late.

In Season 5, Spike and Snake’s relationship had a setback when Emma discovered Snake kissing Degrassi’s principal Daphne Hatzilakos in an empty theater. Snake moves out and Caitlyn comes to cheer her up. Snake comes back to give her a bracelet he bought for their anniversary which had her birthstone, sapphire in it. They eventually got back together and just in time to help Emma with her eating disorder.

In Season 6, Spike and Snake allows Sean to stay with them till he gets back on his feet.

The ska band Skankin' Pickle wrote a song about her called "I'm In Love With A Girl Named Spike".[1]
