Intro Survey

Hello again, Writerose. If you could, please answer these questions to help me understand where you are at the moment. I will also begin working with you on the Slutwalk issue below...

  • Where do you live? (For privacy reasons, please don't be too specific. I'm just looking for country and/or state/province. If you happen to live in a large city, go ahead and include that if you want, but otherwise don't post your hometown.)
  • Are you good at reviewing other people's work (such as for grammar, spelling, style, or for grading)?
  • How patient are you? Not very!
  • What are your feelings about vandalism?
  • Are you comfortable using Wikimarkup yet, or do you still need some time getting it to work?
  • What do you expect your online editing frequency to be? A few pages every day, on the weekends only, online every few days, etc.

Ok, I've begun editing SlutWalk as I feel it is in need for improvement and it has also been nominated for deletion. This seems like a good place to start. Actually now that I've seen what WP:COIN is, the issues for which SlutWalk has been nominated seem right up your alley. I'm not sure how we are supposed to go about this mentoring arrangement? My main issue with the article is that some of it is not written in a tense which ages well and as it is an unfolding phenomenon, needs to be expanded to be kept up to date. I've added a Criticisms section but will need to do a fair bit of reading before I go much further with it. To date I've mostly created articles from scratch and not had anyone else really edit them so I'm not used to actually overwriting other people's work to any degree so I'm not sure how to handle any discussion which arises. So lets start with this article and see where we end up. I have reviewed the page and the recent edits which have been made. In your own words can you explain to me what you see the problem to me? What are your biases? And why did you select this article? Tiggerjay (talk) 01:38, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Other things of interest

Here are some other areas you've either expressed interest in, or that I think we'll want to cover at some point. Remember this is primarily about you developing and growing in knowledge in the areas you're interested in. If you don't like the way things are going, or want to drop anything, just let me know.

I recommend those policies based on what you plan on editing, primarily politics - those tend to frequently enter into dispute and/or conflict of interest. Tiggerjay (talk) 01:38, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Australia

  • Are you good at reviewing other people's work (such as for grammar, spelling, style, or for grading)?

I have just started to change other people's work with the SlutWalk page as opposed to creating an article from scratch. I have done a handful of articles but no one else has really edited them other than bots or to add/change a category so I have not had to really 'discuss' anything with anyone. I feel a bit intimidated at the idea of defending my changes although I do not think that I am a defensive person in general. I guess it depends if people are willing to listen to my viewpoint or not.

  • How patient are you?

Not very!

  • What are your feelings about vandalism?

I can't say that I have any 'feelings' about vandalism. I assume you are asking specifically about vandalism on Wikipedia? I have not really noticed it (probably due to the good work done by administrators).

  • Are you comfortable using Wikimarkup yet, or do you still need some time getting it to work?

I use the markup but if I have not edited for weeks I tend to forget the tags. I often don't know where to go to find a specific tag like for adding and editor to a book citation tag. I tend to do a bit of trial and error when I can't find the actual tag.

  • What do you expect your online editing frequency to be? A few pages every day, on the weekends only, online every few days, etc.

I am not sure at this stage. It all depends what I get involved in. For example the SlutWalk page came up because I have been involved in promoting the events through my site Collective Action which promotes Australian political events and I could see that the page needed improvement. While this may be seen as a conflict of interest it is only one of almost 700 events/issues on my site and I have a keen appreciation of both sides of the debate. However I need to find the time to read what has become a barrage of Australian media debating the issue to faithfully represent what the commentators are saying as opposed to my own thoughts. It is a huge issue in Australian media right now (our first SlutWalk rallies were yesterday) so it is going to take a bit of a time commitment from me to get across it all. Having said that yesterday, the basic criticisms have been crystalising in my mind last night so I'll likely have a go at putting them in a nut-shell today. Writerose (talk) 01:48, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
