Marie Rachel Salman Taleon-Lagdameo (born March 4, 1969),[1] more known by her screen name Dawn Zulueta, is a Filipina film-television actress, host and commercial model.[2]

Early life and career

Zulueta was spotted in the Close-Up TV commercial in 1986 opposite budding actor Tonton Gutierrez. After which, Viva Films assigned her first movie appearance in "Nakagapos na Puso" (1986). Then a gamut of TV assignments followed like sitcom "Ok Ka, Fairy ko" (1988) as Enteng Kabisote's wife Faye, drama series "Davao" (1990) in RPN -9 and joined the regulars female hosts of musical variety shows GMA-Super Show (1989) and RSVP (1990). During the early years of her career, Viva Films assigned her comedy movies like "Bondying" (1988) with Jimmy Santos, "Alyas Batman and Robin" (1990) with Joey de Leon and son Kempee or either support roles. In 1991, Reyna Films in its initial film presentation partnered her with Richard Gomez in the smash hit "Hihintayin kita sa Langit" playing ill-fated lovers. Zulueta holds the distinction of winning both the Filipino Academy of Movies Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards for Best Lead Actress (Hihintayin Kita sa Langit) and Best Supporting Actress (Una Kang Naging Akin) in 1991. She also won the Supporting Actress of the Year in the Film Academy of the Philippines for Una Kang Naging Akin.[3] She was also declared by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation Entertainment Award as the Box Office Queen of 1994 for starring in that year's highest-grossing film: The Maggie Dela Riva Story...God Why Me?[4]

The only person in Philippine movie history to ever bag two acting awards in a single ceremony from any awards night (Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress in the 1991 FAMAS Awards).

Her other Best Actress honors include the 1993 Metro Manila Film Festival for Kung Mawawala Ka Pa;[5] 1993 FAMAS for Kung Mawawala Ka Pa;[6] and 1994 Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies for Buhay ng Buhay Ko.[7] Further, she has received multiple nominations (for both lead and supporting roles) from the prestigious Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP) Gawad Urian.[8][9]

In 1996, Zulueta starred with 90's rising star and former child star Sheryl Cruz and 1994 Beauty Queen Charlene Gonzales in the hit drama-vengeance film Ikaw Naman Ang Iiyak for Viva Films in a lead role as Elaine, which became a career booster as a lead actress. In the same year, Zulueta was cited in a Manila Times article as the 10th Best Filipino Actress from 1990 to 1996.[10] In addition, a 1999 Manila Standard article named her as one of the Top 10 Actresses of the 1990s.[11]

In 2010, Zulueta took the lead role in a stage musical, A Little Night Music. In 2011, she made a comeback television show the remake of Mula Sa Puso, which she's plays Magda, who originally played by Jaclyn Jose.

Personal life

She is married to Antonio Lagdameo, Jr.[12][13] They have two children.[14][15][16]
