    @Attornist: That's not something you can use Wikipedia to do, you will need to do so elsewhere. I would also urge you to proceed carefully and not immediately hand over any money. Anyone you hire cannot make any guarantees(such as guaranteeing they will write an article that will not be deleted). They will also need to declare their association with you and that you are paying them per the conflict of interest and paid editing policies.
    Also note that you would only merit an article on Wikipedia if you meet the notability criteria for biographies; there are also more specific criteria for certain professions(politicians, athletes, musicians, etc.).     Every politician who has competently completed an election on any level at least once can have an undeletable page, though. Anybody struggling for in-depth independent coverage but legitimately interesting or useful to general audiences might consider winning some small seat. Could resign immediately, if governance isn't appealing. You'd still need sources for your content, but your name would last forever. InedibleHulk (talk) 02:15, June 17, 2019 (UTC)
    As the others have indicated, Attornist, that is a bad idea. If Wikipedia has an article about your organisation, it will not be your article (or your organisation's), it will not say what you want it to say, and you will have no control over the content. If you're looking for a way to increase your online presence, Wikipedia is emphatically not the place to do it.
    As for hiring: paid editing is not forbidden, but it is set about with restrictions, and many editors (myself included) look on it with suspicion. A Wikipedia article should be written for the benefit of Wikipedia, and absolutely nobody and nothing else. --ColinFine (talk) 09:23, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    No. This has many been discussed many times and a minority source will not change the consensus. See the red box at top of Talk:Fascism. Of course authoritarian, totalitarian governments can be left wing, but the term fascim indicates right wing. Some people use it as a general slur but Wikipedia gives the political meaning.     @RobloxFanEditor: Wikipedia does not have this feature but your browser may store your browsing history. It requires that you used the same browser on the same computer, that the browser has the feature, and that you don't have browser settings to delete the history.     Murali Kumar (dubbing artist)

    I have small doubt. If we have many celebritities for same named as Karthik for a example We create Karthi (actor), Singer, director etc for their profession give the title.     @ScarlettDeepa94: We only use descriptions like "(dubbing artist)" to distinguish between article subjects with the same name.     @ScarlettDeepa94: Please sign your posts with ~~~~. This automatically adds a correct UTC time stamp. "(voice actor)" is the common English term but if "(dubbing artist)" is more common in India then I suppose you can use that for Indian voice actors when disambiguation from other articles is needed.     Fixed. I did some general cleanup too. As a note, any time a | is seen within a template (such as {{cite web}}, it starts a new parameter. In this case, it tried to think |charity was a parameter, and that's why it was confused. I changed this to simply Qube, as the rest of the information is irrelevent to the source.     Layout glitch

    Help editing a Wikipedia company page

    Hello Wikipedia editors,

    I have left a message on the 'Talk' function of the 'SITAONAIR' company page last month, but have yet to receive a response (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:SITAOnAir ) . I appreciate that this may be due to errors in my use of the talk page, so I'm looking for some guidance.

    For transparency, I am a PR professional, paid by the company SITAONAIR – so I am obviously prohibited from making changes directly. This account has been set up specifically with the intention to correct inaccuracies and update information on the SITAONAIR page: SITAOnAir.

    Removing a page from a hidden category

    Sorry to bother you guys/girls, but I need to know how to remove a page from a hidden category. For example, if a page in the category "Wikipedia articles needing copy edit" is copy edited and requires no more corrections, how do you remove it from the category?     @LilBillWilliams: To remove it from the category you just remove the template that puts it into the category, so in this case you would remove the {{copy edit}} template. Help:Maintenance template removal should tell you more. DuncanHill (talk) 15:16, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    The category page often says which templates add the category. Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit does this.     @Ambersharon2: The error was caused by the addition of ref tags with no content. (See WP:REFB for more information). Also, the correct link (which needs double square brackets is Rob Evans (basketball) and the lists go in alphabetical order.     Regarding Kolkata Metro

    I want help regarding the article Kolkata Metro. Recently I updated it, and changed the names of some stations etc. and I cited a official website[1] But a guy named User:Soumo Dutt changes it frequently. I also undid them, but now I am fed up. He neither gives any citations. Someone already told not to do like this in his talkpage, but he still does. I already put this in Wikipedia:Requests for administrator attention. But he is still doing. I need help on what to do so that he doesn't do this anymore? I am trying to edit and put new stuffs day & night, since the article and all other related articles are outdated, and some people like these are wasting it. Please help

    Please discuss your concerns on the talk page. I reviewed the article and removed the sentence about you being a paid editor because the reporting said you testified that the payment was unsolicited, and I'm assuming good faith. And thank you for discussing this rather than trying to edit the article yourself. Other editors apparently spent a good amount of time identifying and blocking multiple accounts that were suspiciously editing the article.     The entire article is full of smear and violates your policies regarding biographies of living persons. Edits made in the past two and a hlaf months have removed anything positive and highlighted the negative.     1. You need to recognise that Wikipedia is edited by volunteers all around the world. That means that a particular volunteer may only be able to edit for perhaps an hour in any one of the 24 time zones. TimTempleton replied to you at 22:27 yesterday yet you complained here at 00:44. You then demanded action at 13:00 on the talk page and back here at 13:48.
    2. You have been apparently editing as GoldLilydog, 2607:FEA8:C360:C3:7034:60A4:AE46:9091 and 2607:FEA8:C360:C3:99F7:DB71:6772:B707. How do we know that they are the same person?
    3. How do we know that you are the real Mark Bourrie? This is (in part) why we require independent verification of facts.

    Reviving a Wikiproject

    Hello, Hope you are all doing well. One of the Wikiprojects which I am quite fond of has fell quite a bit into a state of dormancy since...er...2010. I am looking towards dedicating substantial time to restore this Wikiproject to its former glory, along with its members, team, logos, etc. The leader of the Wikiproject has been inactive for 9 years now and unfortunately there's no sign of him coming back.     Hell, Michigan

    • The article has now been EC protected two months by User:Swarm; two users have been blocked. That should help with the enthusiastic renaming of the town to 'Gay Hell' by new users. I'll leave a ping for User:VoltronUniverse since they have been one of the people adding 'Gay' to the article text. There is a problem with making unsourced changes. A rapper and Youtuber named Elijah Daniel has been saying that he became mayor of Hell for a day and has used his temporary authority to rename the town to 'Gay Hell'. This appears to be a sort of a joke and would need to be handled with due weight, if confirmed by reliable sources. We do have reliable sources confirming that Daniel *made* the statement; the press seems to be treating that as a human interest item. The report has achieved some currency, presumably as a tongue-in-cheek item. If we want to add this information to the actual article on Hell, Michigan we should get it from a source which is doing more than repeating Daniel's own announcement.     Ending conflict of interest

    I stated that I had a conflict of interest with a company a few years ago. At the time I was a paid contractor with the company.

    However, this conflict ended a couple of years ago when the company reorganized. I am no longer either an employee or contractor, or associated with the company - other than being a fan of what they are doing.

    Since this conflict no longer exists, how do I get this removed?

    Hi @Conquestde: You should not completely remove it (since you did have a conflict at one time, and anyone looking at your past contributions made during that time frame should still be aware of your past paid editing status).     Anonymous sources

    Hi @Manabimasu: Your source would be the New York Times article itself (you could include in the Wikipedia article, "according to an anonymous source" then whatever they said, then the citation linking it to the New York Times if you wanted to clarify that the source the NYT was reporting from was anonymous).     @Manabimasu: Just to clarify a bit: you should use secondary sources (here, the NYT), not primary sources (here, whoever the anonymous source is). What gives credence to the information is not who provided it in the first place, but the fact that the NYT (a newspaper with a fairly good track record for fact-checking) published it (assuming it is an investigative piece, not something from the opinion column).     Claiming inactive account names

For example, I would like to use the name BobRoberts, but the name was taken by an editor who hasn't made any edits for and made their account 13 years ago.     Hi @LilBillWilliams: You're not a bother. I'm glad you asked the question. Since the requested account's home is the English Wikipedia (here), they've been inactive since 2013, and they've had zero contributions: [1], the name change should process should be pretty smooth. Just follow the process here: WP:USURP. The instructions are right above the blue button (basically you'll click the blue button to start the request, enter BobRoberts in place of where you see TARGETNAME, and enter a reason in place of where you see YOUR REASON, then click the publish changes button).     Split Bangkok Article

    I felt that the following paragraph (its one footnote removed), from the article on Bangkok, should be split. Could anyone please provide me with suggestions as to where? I think the sentence starting with "[f]ollowing" would be best. (I split it there at first, then undid the edit and decided to get feedback here first - twice, because of an accidental edit.     @Thylacine24: - (sorry to edit directly, think it looked simpler) - you are definitely right it should be split at that point. But it could just as well be split into 3 paragraphs, and like in many histories, WW2 makes a good breakpoint.
    "Bangkok's economy gradually expanded through international trade, first with China, then with Western merchants returning in the early to-mid 19th century. As the capital, Bangkok was the centre of Siam's modernization as it faced pressure from Western powers in the late-19th century. The reigns of Kings Mongkut (Rama IV, 1851–68) and Chulalongkorn (Rama V, 1868–1910) saw the introduction of the steam engine, printing press, rail transport and utilities infrastructure in the city, as well as formal education and healthcare. Bangkok became the centre stage for power struggles between the military and political elite as the country abolished absolute monarchy in 1932.
    Allied with Japan in World War II, it was subjected to Allied bombing, but rapidly grew in the post-war period as a result of US aid and government-sponsored investment. Bangkok's role as a US military R&R destination boosted its tourism industry as well as firmly establishing it as a sex tourism destination. Disproportionate urban development led to increasing income inequalities and migration from rural areas into Bangkok; its population surged from 1.8 million to 3 million in the 1960s.
    Following the US withdrawal from Vietnam in 1973, Japanese businesses took over as leaders in investment, and the expansion of export-oriented manufacturing led to growth of the financial market in Bangkok. Rapid growth of the city continued through the 1980s and early 1990s, until it was stalled by the 1997 Asian financial crisis. By then, many public and social issues had emerged, among them the strain on infrastructure reflected in the city's notorious traffic jams. I was looking at Template:Infobox Tunisian political party that's used on that page and it looks like for the seat parameter it says "The current number of seats the party holds in the Assembly of Representatives.     @Byjuvtvm: there was about 58,000 pages on the Malayalam Wikipedia as of August 2018 compared to nearly 6 million on the English Wikipedia. This means that the vast majority of articles you find haven’t been translated, but you can check by searching the Malayam Wikipedia before translating.     Before wasting any more of your, or your client's, time you need to read WP:PAID, WP:COI and WP:NOTE. Then ask yourself if your client is notable (in Wiki's terms) and are there third party references for all facts. There are no independent reference other than the government list of banks, the bank's own web and facebook pages are not independent. It also reads like a promotional page, not a neutral assessment of the bank. WP is not social media, it summarises what third parties have said about the subject of the page.     Inability to edit one specific article - how comes? How to return to editing?

    By missunderstanding my GIF was deleted from article "Headphones". Now the GIF is restored in Commons (property rights for the image confirmed), but I cannot restore it in the article because this particular article has no "Edit source" tag for me - instead I see "View source". For other articles the editing option is still available. What needs to be done to return to editing of the article and restoring the information deleted by mistake?     The article has been semi-protected, as can be seen from the padlock in the top right hand corner of the article. This prevents IP addresses and non-confirmed accounts from editing and making changes to it.     Boaty McBoatface - references within notes

    The naming section of Boaty McBoatface contains the sentence "These incidents suggest there is still a clear deficit in understanding how to engage crowds and avoid failures and demonstrate the backlash from NERC’s neglecting the crowd’s choice, which resulted in a sophisticated reaction in other campaigns" - which is backed up by a reference note. However, the reference note itself contains references. Is this an acceptable way of doing things?     Incorrect detail about Antoni Gaudí

    The page for Hotel Attraction – almost certainly incorrectly – states that Gaudí was a communist. I brought this up on the talk page of that article last April, which no one has replied to yet:

    That doesn't seem right, what with Gaudí's devout Catholic beliefs, and the main Wikipedia page makes no reference to Gaudí being a Communist. I know the link in the footnote says he was, but it seems to be one of only a few sources that make mention of Gaudí as a communist, all of which concern the Hotel Attraction. This leads me to believe that what I think is the original source for this, a page from the blacklisted website Untapped Cities, fabricated it, intentionally or unintentionally.

    Special:Nearby for arbitrary locations?

    Special:Nearby usefully gives a list of nearby articles sorted by distance from my current location. But I would like a tool that allows me to enter a latitude and longitude and get a list of articles close to that location. This was apparently requested several years ago (see phabricator:T51413), but I can't figure out if it was implemented or how to use it. See also Wikipedia:Nearby.     @Mx. Granger: If you download the free Wikipedia app on a mobile device, there is a map which allows you to locate anywhere in the world and search for articles located in that area.     As for the image: authorisation is irrelevant. Apart from the (unlikely) case that the copyright owner chooses to release the image publicly under a licence which will allow anybody in the world to reuse it for any purpose, it can only be used in English Wikipedia under the non-free content criteria. If in the judgment of uninvolved editors a particular image you want to propose can be used in a way that meets all these criteria, then it can be used (and if there is already an image there, this is likely to be straightforward).     Sources with social media snippets in them Comment

    I come across a lot of reliable sources containing either screenshots, or an inserted social media scroll on their page, most often Twitter or Facebook. I was wandering whether information could be taken from these social media 'snippets' and used in a Wikipedia article. For example, this BBC news article has a screenshot of a tweet by Piers Morgan, they have repeated the words of the tweet, so I presume that is fine to use in a Wikipedia article, but what about the other information on the screenshot, such as it was posted on 6 June. (For theoretical reasons, imagine that this is the ONLY source writing on this, so I can't just go and cite the information from another source).     In my view, it is a reliable source confirming that the tweet was made, or specifically that Piers Morgan said 'x.' It is kind of like the American rules of evidence re hearsay - the statement is evidence that the statement was made, but it cannot be used to prove the truth of the matter asserted.     I may have resolved my issue by changing my password, but I've never had this problem in over 8 years (or longer). I'm always logged in to the English wikipedia (up to the 365 days), but today the unified login to wikimedia commons no longer worked for me. This used to work. [3] shows I have 132 attached accounts, including commons and meta. I am using the latest Firefox for Windows 8. I tried logging in to commons on Chrome using my password that I've never changed but it reports "Incorrect username or password entered. Please try again." Again, I'm curious why I had to change my password to resolve this issue. -84user (talk) 02:51, 20 June 2019 (UTC) EDIT to raise the prior issue that led me to discover the unified login failing, and that is the Mark as Read choice in my Notifications (View Notices on top line to right of View Alerts) has no effect: clicking mark as read made the blue dot empty, but the notice was still there and a refresh page returned the status to unread. Is there a more direct way to get Mark as Read, or maybe ,mark all notices as read, to work? (only workaround I found was an awkward visitng of the actual source of the notice and refreshing the page, in my case was on wikidata).     Football club kit patters

    I am currently updating Dumbarton FC seasons pages including the addition of historical kits worn by the players during that season.

    I have source material for the styles (historicalkits.co.uk) but other than 'trial and error' am unaware of any guide on the coding required for displaying the kits on the relevant page.

    For example the 1876-77 season shows the following code:

    Hey anon. It's not required, but a good first step would be registering an account and/or enabling email, which will make it a great deal easier for others to communicate with you over time. Other than that, if you could give us more information about what university you are working with, or what field you are interested in, we can probably be more helpful. There are preexisting groups on some campuses already, with some programs partnering with the Wiki Educational Foundation to incorporate editing Wikipedia into their curriculum.     Individual Reverts my Good Faith Edits

    I don't know what this individual has against me and my expertise on "his" particular subject. I don't want an edit war, but I don't know what to do about it. He just says "you are wrong" without describing the specifics. He even deletes my additions to citations. What can I do about this?

    Sure. I like to work on Wikipedia when I'm not busy, or as it applies to the work I am doing. Right now I am working on Floating Point. The latest history there shows my revert and my explanation. I think he doesn't read my references, so I think it is something personal. I can give you point of interest on this, though I am not really sure why he reverts my stuff except that he reverts a lot of stuff on Floating Point. I think he is claiming ownership or something.
    And isn't it okay to have multiple references for a factoid? There is often minor differences in perspectives of various citation authors. There are multiple experts in any field and one should study them all to be knowledgeable.

Please tell me what I do wrong when loading the company logo - they constantly write to me that the copyright of the image is violated, although the owner of this site has allowed me to use its logo, which I upload. Another person does the same thing and they never write anything about it to him.
