Donyi-Polo
Appearance
Donyi Polo is a primitive religion in Arunachal Pradesh, bordering Myanmar and Tibet. The Religion has no written scriptures and has survived the passage of time with traditions and hymns passed on to the next generations orally.
Believers worship the sun and the moon, besides other things like bamboo and bushes found in the jungles.
There is a threat to the indigenous faith with the advent of Christianity and Hinduism.
Until recently, a vast majority in this tiny frontier state with a population of 1.1 million people were either animists or believers of the traditional faith Donyi Polo.
Today more than 50 percent of the population has got converted into other religions, leaving only half the people practicing the primitive faith.
