Pape Abou Cissé (born 14 September 1995) is a Senegalese footballer who plays as a defender for Olympiacos.

Club career

A youth international for Senegal, he is a youth product of AS Pikine.[1] Cissé joined Ajaccio in 2014 as a youth asset. In 2017, he joined Olympiacos as a pre-contract signing.[2] He made his professional debut in a Ligue 2 draw against Valenciennes in April 2015, playing the entire game.[3]

On 14 October 2017, he scored his first goal with Olympiacos, after an assist from Kostas Fortounis in a 4–3 away win against Panionios.[4] Until the end of the first half of the 2017–18 season, he has been a key player in club's defence, scored two more goals against Platanias and Kerkyra. According to various sources, Benfica not only kept an eye on the youth international, but has already filed a formal proposal estimated to the region of €6 million, but the Reds responded negatively, believing that the 22-year-old defender may cost twice as much the following season.[5]

On 11 November 2018, Cissé bundled home an injury time equaliser for Olympiacos, as the first 2018-19 season's derby ended in a 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos at the Karaiskakis Stadium. Cissé prodding home from close-range in the fifth minute of added time during a breathless finish as the Greens tried desperately to repel wave after wave of Olympiacos attacks.[6] Cissé has emerged as the leader of the Olympiacos defence, and in six Europa League appearances (one in the qualifiers, five in the group stage), he was a reliable figure as the club qualified for the Last 32 from Group F. In the decisive group game against AC Milan, Cissé popped up with a crucial goal, opening the score, with Olympiacos triumphing 3-1. As a result of this strong showings, UEFA included him in the Champions League Breakthrough Team of the Year for 2018.[7]

International career

On 24 August 2018, as a result of his exceptional performance with Olympiacos jersey, has been selected for first time, for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Madagascar on 9 September 2018.[8] On 13 October 2018, he scored his first goal in his first appearance in a 1-0 home win game against Sudan for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
