Characters

Oodachi High School

Hinomaru Ushio (潮 火ノ丸, Ushio Hinomaru)
Voiced by: Atsushi Abe[1] (Japanese); Ricco Fajardo[2] (English)
A Yokozuna, he was a 2-time Yokozuna in elementary school level due to his natural talent. His epithet is National Treasure "Onimaru Kunitsuna", but his career stalled in middle school, due to his diminutive size (157 cm (5'2") by junior high, still below grade limit of 167 cm (5'6")). Despite this, he is extremely muscular and gains better leverage due to a far lower centre of gravity and great acceleration to drive opponents up and out of the ring. His Yokozuna-style wrestling style, combined with his gung-ho attitude and scant regard for health and safety often puts him in harm's way.
Undersized, he left competitive wrestling in middle school because his style finally became his disadvantage as he suffered the longest losing streak of his career, and made his return in high school 3 years later. He accidentally joined Odachi High after getting off the subway a stop too early, missing out on joining Ishigami High, the true powerhouse sumo school. Months after defeating Yuma Gojo, he decided to join Odachi High Sumo club. He hates people talking about death lightly due to him not having his parents, but his independence also hinders him from developing deep and meaningful friendships because he is too uncomfortable asking for help.
As a professional sumo wrestler, he is affiliated with the Shibakiyama stable and uses the shikona Onimaru Kunitsuna.
Shinya Ozeki (小関 信也, Ozeki Shinya)
Voiced by: Fukushi Ochiai[1] (Japanese); Tyson Rinehart[2] (English)
The club leader of the Odachi High Sumo club, and was the only member of the club before Hinomaru offered to join, a senior (3rd year) high school student. Known for his mental fortitude, and often has intense and close sparring matches with Hinomaru, who has great upper body strength, where Ozeki has greater lower body strength, as proven when he lost to Kei Mitsuhashi by a single leg takedown, but vows to match up against Hinomaru whenever or if Hinomaru goes pro (Hinomaru cannot go pro if he cannot grow to 173 cm, or 5'8" tall (167 cm or 5'6" in the anime, but he'd still fail in that regard)).
As a professional sumo wrestler, he is affiliated with the Nagato stable and uses the shikona Tarōtachi Shinya.
Yuma Gojo (五條 佑真, Gojō Yūma)
Voiced by: Kentarō Kumagai[1] (Japanese); Brandon Potter[2] (English)
Older brother of Reina, a former Kanto regional karate champion in middle school that despised sumo to the point that he destroyed Ozeki's meticulously prepared sumo ring and let delinquents take over the dojo. This caused his karate sensei to expel him from the dojo, but later became influenced by Hinomaru's hardworking attitude after Hinomaru survived 15 minutes of his punches without falling, then was driven out of the ring with only 2 hits. He even started taking care of Ozeki, not only because he was the victim of his bullying, but his chubby face reminds him of the stray cat than hangs around the school yard. When he practises sumo, his techniques are based mostly on hand battles and punches to harness his karate skills. Ever since reforming, his sensei has welcomed him back and trains him in techniques supplementing his sumo.
Despite his delinquency, both he and his sister are top 30 students in their respective grades.
Chihiro Kunisaki (國崎 千比路, Kunisaki Chihiro)
Voiced by: Takuya Satō[1] (Japanese); Marcus Stimac[2] (English)
Was a national wrestling champion in his first year in high school, but known for wearing a lucha libre mask and a white nasal tape. He is an aspiring mixed-martial artist as he joins almost every possible combat sports club, but joined the sumo club after conceding defeat to Hinomaru in his second year. It was during a wrestling vs. sumo match, where Chihrio could lose by all wrestling means, so he can still recover when he is on his back within 5 seconds, but Hinomaru could only win by all sumo means. A phenom with great natural talent, he can quickly learn his opponent's moves, so he can beat many Yokozunas. A great scoring threat in team fights with Hinomaru because he utilizes mostly throwing techniques, especially the German Suplex. He is the weakest student academically.
Kei Mitsuhashi (三ツ橋 蛍, Mitsuhashi Kei)
Voiced by: Ayumu Murase[1] (Japanese); Stephen Fu[2] (English)
Unlike Hinomaru, he is the weakest member in the group in terms of stamina and talent. He has to focus on variations, feints and negating opponent's momentum shifts because he cannot match up in a physical head-to-head, the same way that Kirihito managed to end fights quickly.
Kirihito Tsuji (辻 喜仁, Tsuji Kirihito)
Voiced by: Takuma Terashima[1] (Japanese); Adam Gibbs[2] (English)
Despite being a freshman from Chiba, he is the coach of the team. He was an elementary school-level Yokozuna along with Hinomaru, and they trained together in the same dojo then. He was known under the epithet "Onikiri Yasutsuna". His technical knowledge helped to train the club members' core strength, leg strength and fundamentals, and he is known to use a low 'Spider Crawl' stance. However, he can only fight in 20-second bursts due to his impaired lung function from severe asthma, as he requires the use of a portable nebulizer, but was later encouraged to become a team substitute, especially given Kei's inexperience.
As a professional sumo wrestler, he is affiliated with the Nagato stable and uses the shikona Onikiri.
Reina Gojo (五條 礼奈, Gojo Reina)
Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu[3] (Japanese); Jad Saxton[2] (English)
Student Council President, and last year's Miss Daichi High (Beauty Queen). Initially shared Yuma's sentiment that sumo isn't a cool sport, but was inspired by the club's hard work, and later becoming the club vice-president, and even becoming Hinomaru's girlfriend.
Chizuko Hori (堀 千鶴子, Hori Chizuko)
Voiced by: Rui Tanabe[3] (Japanese); Felecia Angelle[2] (English)
Another manager in the club. She was saved by Hinomaru in a train when confronted by a molester months before Hinomaru officially enrolled. However, Hinomaru was mistaken as a pervert instead, as he was still wearing a mawashi, or sumo-wrestling undergarment.

Eiga University High School

Daniel Stefanov (ダニエル・ステファノフ, Danieru Sutefanofu)
Voiced by: Justin Tomimori[4] (Japanese); Dave Trosko[2] (English)

Sōsuke Kuze (久世 草介, Kuze Sōsuke)
Voiced by: Shunsuke Takeuchi[4] (Japanese); Ian Sinclair[2] (English)
Freshman in Eiga University High School. His epithet was National Treasure, "Kusanagi no-Tsurugi". He has once defeated Hinomaru in the past and sees Hinomaru as a great rival. He stands 195 cm, and weighs 142 kg. His father, Yamatokuni, was also a Yokozuna, who briefly trained Hinomaru in middle school, but he has never been able to fight due to his father's orders after dislocating Hinomaru's shoulder in an elementary school tournament match. But when he matches up with Hinomaru again in the practice match, he uses powerful punches before using the same arm bar variation to try and destabilize Hinomaru's arm again, but Hinomaru powers out of the hold in the rematch. His representative figures are serpentine. The match ended prematurely due to teacher's stoppage.
After graduating from high school, he entered his father's stable to become a professional sumo wrestler and took the shikona of Kusanagi Sōsuke.
Jin Yomoda (四方田 尽, Yomoda Jin)
Voiced by: Noriaki Sugiyama[4] (Japanese); Howard Wang[2] (English)
Senior in Eiga University High School, and one of the aces, and is the team captain in the club. He stands 184 cm, and weighs 164 kg. Despite his imposing figure, he is a very soft-spoken person.
Shun Kariya (狩谷 俊, Kariya Shun)
Voiced by: Takuto Yoshinaga[4] (Japanese); Justin Briner[2] (English)
Freshman in Eiga University High School. The shortest and lightest person in the club, lightweight champion in middle school, and open-weight quarter-finalist at Inter-High. He tried to fight Hinomaru so that Kuze would defy his father's fighting ban. He admires Hinomaru's Yokozuna-style power sumo style, but Shun uses a more technical and agility-based style that dodges powerful advances, but going even lower than Hinomaru early to attempt scoring leg takedowns.
