The giant Asian praying mantis, hierodula membranacea, is one of the largest in the mantid family.

Diet

Giant Asians in captivity will feed on basically any given insect, as they have a vigorous appetite. This includes crickets, locusts, wax worms and houseflies. This species is particularly cannibalistic, so it is wise to keep them separate as pets.

Origin

As their name suggests, giants Asians originate from south-east Asia. As they tend to live in hot and humid climates, they can be maintained as a pet with a temperature of 71.6 to 86 Fahrenheit, with the humidity 60% to 70%.

Trivia

The Pokémon characters Scyther and Scizor are based on mantises.
