Technopark campus in Kazhakoottam
Beautiful Night View of Technopark Trivandrum which is the largest IT Park in Asia is at Kazhakootam, Trivandrum.

Kazhakuttom is an IT , Industrial and residential area of Trivandrum city, the capital and largest metropolitan of the Indian state of Kerala. Kazhakuttom gained in significance because of its proximity to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, the Kerala Technopark and the Trivandrum International Stadium. The area around the Technopark is known as New Trivandrum. Kazhakuttom is known for its Agraharam and Mahadeva temples.

Kazhakuttom is a Legislative Assembly constituency, represented by Kadakampally Surendran.[1] Kazhakuttom is a ward under the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.[2]

History

Kazhakuttom was the centre of power of character Kazhakuttathu Ugran Pillai,[citation needed] who was prominent among the so-called Ettuveetil Pillamar (Pillais from Eight Houses) who rebelled against Travancore King Marthanda Varma, in the fictional novel 'Marthandavarma' by Sri.C.V.Raman Pillai. After defeating Pillai, Varma destroyed his palace and replaced it with a pond. To redeem himself, he built a temple to Krishna nearby. Both the pond and the temple survive.

The Kazhakuttom Mahadeva Temple is believed[by whom?] to be around 1000 years old.

Kazhakuttom later became the heart of the IT sector of Thiruvananthapuram hosting the Technopark as well as the offices of many multinational companies along the IT corridor.

Apart from the Technopark, Sainik School of Kerala state is also located at Kazhakootam.
