The Gilroy Garlic Festival is a food festival in the United States, held annually in Gilroy, California, on the last full weekend in July at Christmas Hill Park. The most recent festival was held on July 26–28, 2019.[1]

An annual three-day event,[2] the Gilroy Garlic Festival is one of the country's most famous food festivals, drawing food lovers from across the nation.[3] Located about 30 miles (48 km) southeast of San Jose, Gilroy is home to about 60,000 people, and the city is a major producer of garlic.[2] The festival is Gilroy’s top fundraiser, staffed with volunteers to raise money for nonprofit groups including clubs and schools.[3]

2019 shooting

On July 28, 2019, a mass shooting occurred at the 41st edition of the festival.[4] At least four people were killed (including the gunman) and 15 others were injured.[5]
