W.C. Eaket Secondary School is the only English-language high school in Blind River, Ontario. It is currently home to 312 students and 59 faculty members. The only other high school in Blind River is l'Ecole Secondaire Catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Northern Youth Secondary School) which is a solely French-language high school. "Eaket", as it is colloquially known by residents of Blind River and the area surrounding it, was attended by many of the residents of Blind River, who either graduated or dropped out and and stayed living in the area afterwards.

Donald G. Martin

Donald G. Martin graduated from the Blind River District High School in 1961, which went on to become W.C. Eaket Secondary School. He went on to Waterloo University College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1965. In 1966 he received his Bachelor of Education at the Ontario College of Education, University of Toronto. A Master of Education degree was completed from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education, University of Toronto in 1980.

Mr. Martin's first teaching job was at Northern Secondary School, Toronto Board of Education, from 1966 to1968. He then came home to teach at Blind River District High School in 1968. He was the Business Education Director from 1968 to 1974, then served as Vice-Principal from 1974 to 1992, and became the Principal of W.C. Eaket Secondary School in 1992.

Over the years Mr. Martin has served as Staff Advisor for the Inter-School Christian Fellowship Group, and the Students' Council.

In 1994 he was honoured by the Toronto Sun at SkyDome (now Rogers Centre) when he was presented with a Teacher of the Year Award.

Mr. Martin continued as Principal of W.C. Eaket Secondary School until the end of the 2005-2006 school year, when he retired and was honoured at a banquet in his honour, as well as at a school assembly honouring his lifetime achievements.

Students' Council

The Eaket Students' Council is a committee of four student members elected by their fellow students in June of every year. The council elected each June serves a term beginning the following September and following through to August of the next year. The current Students' Council consists of Shane Buckley of Iron Bridge, Brittney Carlson of Blind River, Morgan Dunbar of Blind River and T.J. Kirby of Algoma Mills.
