Northpoint City (Chinese: 纳福城) is the first major suburban shopping mall in Singapore and is the largest shopping complex in Northern Singapore. The shopping complex served as the major expansion of the former Northpoint Shopping Centre which was first opened in 1992.
Northpoint City is located opposite Yishun MRT station and next to the Yishun Bus Interchange. It completed asset enhancement works in early 2010 to refresh the mall and integrate it with its new extension. The centre has a combined net lettable area of 1,300,000 sq ft (120,000 m2), which consists of numerous retail stores. Major tenants include Cold Storage, Harvey Norman, POPULAR Bookstore, Timezone and UNIQLO.
History
Northpoint Shopping Centre (Chinese: 纳福坊) was constructed in November 1992 as the first suburban mall in northern Singapore. It received a lot of publicity and traffic, inviting many companies to establish stores and shops in Singapore for the first time. Brands like Cold Storage, Swensen's and Giordano opened their first outlets in Northpoint Shopping Centre.
In 2015, the Yishun Bus Interchange was demolished to make way for a new building, which will incorporate an extension of Northpoint Shopping Centre, the air-conditioned Yishun Bus Interchange and the Nee Soon Central Community Club, which will be the first of its kind in Singapore. On the top of the new building will be a 920 unit condominium called North Park Residences (Chinese: 北园公寓). They are expected to be completed in phases from 2017 to 2019. In July 2017, Northpoint Shopping Centre was officially renamed to Northpoint City which its existing shopping centre will be renamed as its North Wing while the new extension will be named as South Wing.
Facilities
Existing tenants were retained, such as Cold Storage, Yishun Public Library, Kopitiam, EC House, Timezone and Rubi Shoes. The south wing of the mall was opened in December 2017, increasing the number of tenants to 500, such as high street fashion and more food choices, including gourmet street Makan Town. Anchor tenants include a Harvey Norman Superstore, UNIQLO, Anytime Fitness, NTUC FairPrice and Halal food court Bagus. A new revamped Yishun Public Library, which is located at Level 4 North Wing, opened on 3 February 2018 which includes a new digital learning zone.[1] A sunken garden at Basement 1 connects the two wings together.[2] On level 2 of South Wing, it is now dedicated for family and kids retail stores, such as Cotton On Kids, FOX Kids & Baby, Kiddy Palace and Little Kooma.
Accessibility
Northpoint City South Wing is seamlessly connected to Yishun MRT Station via Northpoint Link which is fully air-conditioned including F&B and retail outlets. It will soon be accessible to the upcoming air-conditioned Yishun Bus Interchange in 2019.
