Rock collecting
Appearance
Rock collecting (rockhounding) is an eclectic activity that includes studying, searching, finding, identifying, and collecting rocks, minerals, lapidary material, and/or fossils (almost anything geological)--mostly for recreation or a hobby but also for profit or scientific study. Recreational rock collecting generally equates with amateur geology, rockhounding,[1] rock hunting, or fossicking. Commercial or professional collecting may be referred to as rockhounding or prospecting. Rock collecting can be quite informal or much more rigorous and detailed when pursuing scientific or commercial mineral or fossil collecting.
