Zahir Qasmi Urdu: قاری ظہر قاسمی (August 2, 1922 – September 4, 1988) was a Qari (recitor of Quran). He was able to recite the Qur’an with the proper rules of Tajwid (pronunciation of Arabic language).

Background

Zahir Qasmi had a very unique honour for Qur’an reciting. On August 14/15 1947, day of independence of Pakistan, Qari Zahir Qasmi recited on Radio Pakistan for the country. He had started to gain popularity in the late 1970s, and the early 1980s. He is also the father of the famous movie star Saud Qasmi. Qari Zahir Qasmi died on September 4, 1988 in the state of Virginia (United States).[1]

There is a 'Qari Zahir Qasmi Road' in Karachi, Pakistan named after him.[2]
