(The) Boss 'n' Hug Connection (formerly known as (The) Four Horsewomen) are a professional wrestling stable in currently signed and works at WWE, composed of Sasha Banks, Bayley and formely Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch as the Four Horsewomen. They currently compete on the Raw Live, SmackDown Live and formerly NXT brands.

In 2016, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair became the first women to headline a WWE pay-per-view event and the first to compete in a Hell in a Cell match (both at Hell in a Cell in October 2016), the first women to main event Raw in a women's match since 2004[1][2] and the first women to win the Pro Wrestling Illustrated award for Feud of the Year.[3] In February 2019, Sasha Banks won the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Championship with her tag team partner, Bayley (together known as The Boss 'n' Hug Connection), at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

History

Origins and Formations

The WWE female wrestlers Charlotte Flair (Ric Flair's daughter), Bayley, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks have referred to themselves as "The Four Horsewomen", and posed in ring at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, following a match between Bayley and Banks, each with four fingers held up.[4]

All four of the WWE Four Horsewomen would be involved at the event as well: Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch competed in a Last Woman Standing Match while Sasha Banks and Bayley teamed with Natalya to take on The Riott Squad.

Partnership as The Four Horsewomen (2015–2016)

At NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn on August 22, Sasha Banks dropped the NXT Women's Championship to Bayley, thus ending her reign at 192 days.[5] After the match, Sasha Banks celebrated with Bayley and former rivals Becky Lynch and Charlotte.[6] The match was highly praised by critics and won Match of the Year at the NXT Year-End Awards.[7] At NXT TakeOver: Respect on October 7, Sasha Banks was defeated by Bayley in the main event in the first women's 30-minute Iron man match in WWE history, losing two falls to three in what would be her last match in NXT.[8][9]

Partnership as The Boss 'n' Hug Connection (2017−present)

At the end of 2017, Banks alongside Bayley and Mickie James started a feud with the debuting faction Absolution (Paige, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville) who continuously attacked them on different occasions.[10][11] That led to various singles[12] and tag team matches,[13] that were mostly won by Absolution.[14][15][16][17] Also in December, Banks competed in the first ever women's match contested in the Middle East against Alexa Bliss.[18][19] On January 28, 2018 at the Royal Rumble, Banks was the first entry in the first women's royal rumble match, and she eliminated Vickie Guerrero, Bayley and Trish Stratus, lasting 54:46, due to being outside the ring for most of that time, before being eliminated by The Bella Twins.[20] A few weeks later, on February 25, Banks took part in the first ever women's elimination chamber match at the namesake pay-per-view, where she helped Alexa Bliss, the eventual winner, eliminate Bayley from the match after she pushed her off the pod when the two were "apparently" working together to eliminate Bliss.[21]

On the March 26 episode of Raw, after weeks of animosity between the two, including Bayley betraying Banks during their matches,[22][23] they brawled backstage and had to be separated.[24][25] Banks and Bayley faced off in mid-April but their match ended in a no-contest after The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan) interfered and attacked them both.[26] In the following weeks, Banks competed in different singles[27] and tag team matches in both winning and losing efforts.[28][29] In June, after she defeated Ruby Riott in the finals of a gauntlet match for the last spot,[30][31] Banks competed for the first time in her career in a Money in the Bank ladder match, that was ultimately won by Alexa Bliss.[32] Throughout mid-2018, after Banks and Bayley continued to attack each other,[33][34] they were told to attend counsellor meetings to help maintain their friendship.[35][36][37] In July, the two reconciled and created a tag team, known as "The Boss 'n' Hug Connection".[38][39][40]

After a short hiatus from the ring due to an undisclosed injury, Banks returned to WWE television in October,[41][42] and took part in the first ever all women's pay–per–view Evolution, where she teamed with Bayley and Natalya in a winning effort against The Riott Squad.[43][44] In November, Banks again competed at Survivor Series as part of Team Raw, where she was the last woman from the team that was eliminated by Asuka after an attack by teammate Nia Jax.[45][46] On January 27, 2019, at the Royal Rumble, after she defeated Nia Jax to earn herself a title match,[47][48][49] Banks unsuccessfully challenged Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women's Championship.[50]

On February 17, at the Elimination Chamber, Banks and Bayley won the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Championship by lastly eliminating Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in a six tag team Elimination Chamber match.[51] In their first title defense, Banks and Bayley successfully retained over Nia Jax and Tamina, at Fastlane, on March 10.[52] At WrestleMania 35 on April 7, Banks and Bayley lost the championship to The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) in a fatal four-way tag team match after Kay pinned Bayley, ending their reign at 49 days.[53]

On November 19, 2017, at Survivor Series, Bayley was again part of Team Raw in a five–on–five elimination tag team match, from which she was eliminated by Tamina.[54] Towards the end of the year, Bayley, alongside Sasha Banks and Mickie James, started a feud with Absolution (Paige, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville)[55][56] that led to various singles[57] and tag team matches,[58] mostly won by Absolution.[59][60][61][62] On January 28, 2018, at the Royal Rumble, Bayley competed in the inaugural women's Royal Rumble match, entering at number 29, but was quickly eliminated by her best friend, Banks.[63] A few weeks later, on February 25 at Elimination Chamber, Bayley took part in the first women's Elimination Chamber match, where she was eliminated by Alexa Bliss after Banks pushed her off a pod.[64]

On the WrestleMania 34 kick-off show, Bayley competed in the inaugural WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal, where she got revenge by eliminating Banks, and was the last woman eliminated from the match by its winner, Naomi.[65] On the March 26 episode of Raw, after weeks of animosity, including Bayley betraying Banks during their matches,[66][67] Bayley and Banks brawled backstage and had to be separated.[68] The two faced off in mid-April but their match ended in a no-contest after The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan) interfered and attacked them both.[69][70][71][72] Throughout mid-2018, Bayley and Banks continued to attack each other,[73][74] and were told to attend counselor meetings to help maintain their friendship.[75][76][77] In July, the two reconciled and created a tag team, known as "The Boss 'n' Hug Connection".[78][79][80] On February 17, 2019, at the Elimination Chamber, Bayley and Banks won the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Championship by lastly eliminating Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in a tag team Elimination Chamber match.[81] They successfully defended their tag team titles at Fastlane against Nia Jax and Tamina. At WrestleMania 35 on March 25, 2019, they lost the titles in a Fatal 4-Way match when Bayley was pinned by Billie Kay ending their reign at 49 days.[82] On April 15, WWE released a video of Banks not returning Bayley's calls.[83]

The following day, Banks canceled an appearance on the morning talk show Wendy at the last minute.[84] Throughout the following week, speculation from dirt sheets emerged that she was looking to quit the company due to her longstanding frustrations with WWE. Banks held the impression that she and Bayley were going to have a long title reign to bring credibility to the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, and the two were not informed until the last minute that they would be dropping the titles at WrestleMania.[85][86] Her talk show cancellation was reported to be due to a personal matter, but neither Banks nor WWE had confirmed the rumors of her attempted departure from the company.[84]

After a four month hiatus, Sasha Banks returned on the August 12, 2019, episode of Raw as a villainous character, where she attacked a kayfabe injured Natalya. Banks donned a new blue hair colour beneath a purple wig and went onto attack Becky Lynch with a steel chair, after the latter tried to make the save for Natalya.[87][88] The following week, the feud between Banks and Lynch was reignited, which led to a match between the two at Clash of Champions for Lynch's Raw Women's Championship.[89][90][91] In September, Banks reunited with Bayley, when the latter also turned heel, and the two attacked both Lynch and Charlotte Flair.[92][93]

During the Superstar Shake-up on April 16, 2019, Bayley was drafted to SmackDown, disbanding her team with Sasha Banks, who remained on Raw.[94] At The Shield's Final Chapter, Bayley teamed with Ember Moon to defeat The Riott Squad.[95]

On May 19, 2019, at Money in the Bank, Bayley won the women's Money in the Bank ladder match, granting her a women's championship match at any time of her choosing. Later that night, after Charlotte Flair defeated Becky Lynch to win the SmackDown Women's Championship, Lynch was attacked by Flair and Lacey Evans. Bayley came out to save Lynch and fended off both Flair and Evans. With Flair down, Bayley cashed-in her contract and won the SmackDown Women's Championship for the first time (thus quietly end her frienship and also quietly disbaned her team with Banks).[96] The win made her the first WWE Women's Grand Slam winner in WWE history.[97] Throughout June and early July, Bayley feuded with Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross where she defeated Bliss once in June at Stomping Grounds and she retained her title over Bliss and Nikki Cross in a Handicap match at Extreme Rules in July.

Bayley offered to defend the Smackdown Women's Championship against Ember Moon at SummerSlam, Ember accepted her challenge on the July 16 episode of Smackdown Live after they defeated Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. Bayley successfully defended her title against Moon at SummerSlam. On the September 2 episode of Raw, Bayley teamed with Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch to face off against WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a tag-team match, which they emerged victorious via disqualification after Bayley's former partner, Sasha Banks, interfered and attacked Lynch. When Banks was ready to hit Lynch with a steel chair, Bayley stopped her, before subsequently assaulting Lynch herself with the chair, thus turning heel for the first time in her WWE career.[98] The following night on SmackDown, Bayley justified her assault on Lynch, explaining that she only helped Banks because of their friendship and still proclaimed she was the same person she'd always been and wouldn't change, before being interrupted by Charlotte Flair, whom Bayley was scheduled to defend her title against at Clash of Champions, and the two traded insults until Banks arrived, and they ganged up on Flair before attacking her with a steel chair together.[99][100]
