Lillie Mae (born Lillie Mae Rische on June 26, 1990), is an American Country/Americana singer, songwriter, fiddle and guitar player based out of Nashville, Tennessee.[1]

Career

Early career

Lillie Mae Rische received her first fiddle at the age of three.[2] Mae and her family toured as a family band until her parents divorced when she was 11.[2] The family then settled in Nashville, Tennessee and she began playing the local bars and honky tonks with three of her siblings, Frank, Scarlett, and Amber-Dawn, in the group Jypsi.[2] They signed with Arista Records in 2007 and had a Top 40 hit on Hot Country Songs the next year with "I Don't Love You Like That".[3]

Third Man Records and Jack White

Mae began doing session work for Third Man Records after Jypsi broke up, which led to her playing fiddle on Jack White's 2012 and 2014 tours.[2]

In 2013, Lillie Mae appeared in several spots in the filmed concert Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis.[4] She sang and played violin on "Did You Hear John Hurt?" and "We're Going to Be Friends" alongside Jack White.[5]

Mae has appeared on all three of Jack White's solo records, as well as on The Raconteurs 2019 album Help Us Stranger.

Solo career

In 2014, Mae released her first solo song titled "Nobody's".[6]

On January 19, 2015 she released her first solo album, Rain on the Piano on Southern Shift Records.

On June 23, 2017, Lillie Mae released her first full-length album titled Forever and Then Some on Third Man Records.[7][8] The album was produced by Jack White and featured contributions from her siblings, and former Jypsi bandmates, Frank and Scarlett.[9][10][2]

In 2017, she performed in the multi-award-winning documentary The American Epic Sessions. In this musical feature, she played both fiddle and mandolin alongside Jack White, Dominic Davis, and Fats Kaplin as part of the backing band for artists such as Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, Taj Mahal, Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, and Ana Gabriel.

She played fiddle and provided background vocals on Time Flies, a 2018 album by Jim Lauderdale.

On August 16, 2019, Mae released her third studio album, Other Girls.[11] It was produced by Dave Cobb and recorded at Nashville's RCA Studio A.

Lillie Mae has performed as a solo artist on both Conan[12] and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.[13]
