Draft:Jasmin Singer
Jasmin Singer (born October 30, 1979 in New Brunswick, New Jersey) is an author, speaker, podcast host, activist, and actor living in Los Angeles, California. She is a lesbian, active in the LGBTQ community[1], and has been named one of The Advocate’s “40 Under 40.”[2] Singer is a part of the animal rights movement, focusing on veganism in much of her work, including the Our Hen House podcast, which she co-hosts with activist and lawyer Mariann Sullivan[3]. She has also worked as an AIDS-awareness educator[4].
Early Life and Education
Singer’s parents were divorced when she was a child, after which she lived with her mother, brother, and stepfather[5]. Singer went vegan at the age of 24 for ethical reasons, after learning about the treatment of farmed animals[6][7][5]. She has a Masters in Experiential Health and Healing from The Graduate Institute, and a BFA in acting from Pace University.[8]
Animal Rights Work
In addition to her work as co-founder of the vegan nonprofit Our Hen House and co-host of the Our Hen House podcast, Singer has worked as a campaign manager for Farm Sanctuary, and the Senior Editor for VegNews Magazine.[9][1][10]
Books
Singer is the author of the book Always Too Much and Never Enough: A Memoir, about her own struggles with disordered eating, and society’s mistreatment of overweight people.[11] The book shares her experiences of having a difficult childhood and being bullied while growing up.[6] Her forthcoming book, Fabulous Vegan—a vegan lifestyle guide—will be published by Da Capo in December 2020. She is represented by Claire Harris at Foundry Literary Media.
Film
Singer has appeared in the documentary films Vegucated and The Ghosts In Our Machine, and plays “Jen” in the forthcoming independent movie The Bra Mitzvah.[12]
