The Youth Climate Strike is an international strike and protest led by young people and adults held three days before the UN Climate Summit in NYC. On September 20 all across the US and world to demand transformative action be taken to address the climate crisis. The event is one of the largest climate mobilizations in US history.
Planning
A youth climate strike coalition came together to collaborate on the campaign. The youth strike coalition, coordinated by Future Coalition, includes national youth-led groups such as Zero Hour, Earth Uprising, Fridays For Future USA, Sunrise, US Youth Climate Strike, International Indigenous Youth Council, Earth Guardians, and Extinction Rebellion Youth.
In addition to the youth coalition, a broad adult climate strike coalition, coordinated by 350.org, is actively supporting this intergenerational, intersectional effort. The adult coalition includes the following organizations: Sierra Club, Center for Popular Democracy, NRDC, March On, MoveOn, Hip Hop Caucus and Oxfam.
Event
Future Coalition has been deputized by the Youth Climate Strike Coalition, via a Unifying Agreement, to coordinate the campaign on a national scale. Future Coalition's high-level coordination of the national day of action includes digital campaign management, communications/PR, youth host recruitment, host support, mobilization, partner recruitment and management, as well as national coordination of flagship events, and more.
