Preap Sovath (Khmer: ព្រាប សុវត្ថិ )was born on May 25, 1975. He is a very popular singer and actor in the Kingdom of Cambodia, as well as in a large area of Cambodian living abroad. He started his first recordings in 1997 for Reaksmey Hang Meas production, as leading Cambodian singer. Most of his songs were in CDs & VCD Karaoke. Preap Sovath has been involved in many international concerts such as:

  • Thai-Cambodian Friendship Concert 2010
  • Japan ASEAN Music Festival for Healing 2013

The popularity of Preap Sovath has also earned him a number of awards in Cambodia such as the 2012 Best Singer Award for Anachak Dara, hosted by Sabay in the satellite city Koh Pich on February 16, 2012. Preap Sovath is considered as a singer with a sound record in the Kingdom of Cambodia. He was also nominated to represent Cambodia in the World Music Awards 2014 in representing Cambodia. His popularity has made him the Audition Judge for The Cambodian idol Season 1 in 2015, and the World program Cambodia's Got Talent season 1 in 2015 as well as The Voice Kid Cambodia from 2016 until present.

Early life

Preap Sovath was born on May 25, 1975, during the evacuation of the Khmer Rouge during the Pol Pot regime (1975-1979). His mother gave birth to him at night under a tree, so his mother named him Snay. Sovath's father was killed by the Khmer Rouge in 1977. Later, he and his mother moved to Koh Thom district (Kandal Province). His mother was forced to work at a farm, gathering with many Cambodians every day as he grew up in the orphanage.

In 1982, Preap Sovath and his mother moved to Phnom Penh. He joined the army at the Political Bureau, learned financial equipment and joined the state-run treasury department. Then, his mother worked hard to send him to school, and eventually graduated from high school in 1991 and pursued a Bachelor of Law and Economics at the University of Economics. During that time, he applied for military service in 1992,and entered the army at the Political Bureau. When he was in the army, he always was singing at his party.

In 1994, he sang a year (1995-1996), becoming a partner with Touch Sunnich, the first popular song, a non-violent song អូនមិនមែនសង្សា, and one song titled " Let's be speaking true" សូមឲ្យពិតដូចវាចា.

After his success in two songs, he joined one of the largest productions in Cambodia, Reaksmey Hang Meas Production in 1997, which was released in his first solo album, His Life and His Excellence with Mrs. Him Somvann His second track is "Breaking heart" ហែកបេះដូង The song that made Preap Sovath the most famous in Cambodia was the love song in 2003, the cover of the Thai singer, Bird Thongchai,The popularity of this song continued to make him popular singers until he became a top singer in Cambodia.

He is married to Long Srey Mom in 1997 and has three sons, his eldest son, (Savath Monyvan), second son, (Savath Mony Neak), son The third is the (Savath Sereyvuth), which is currently making a lot of interest from the audience because of their cozy appearance. Career

Sovath's career as a singer started in the 1990s. He released his first song in the early '90s with female singer Touch Sreynich. In 1992, he became a soldier at the Political Commissioner. He worked during the daytime and sang at a restaurant and bar at nighttime. In 1997, he became a singer for Raksmey Hang Meas Production. Initially, he did not want to be a famous singer but liked to sing.[1]

Sovath's work is well known in Cambodian communities abroad.

Performances

Sovath has performed at the Best of the Best: Live Concert, a concert which has taken place annually since 2004 at Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium and has included performances by Cambodian singers such as Raksmey Hang Meas. The concert is free to the public; DVD sales cover the costs. He performed at Best of the Best 2012 on 14 February 2012 at Koh Pich's Concert Hall.

Sovath took part in the MTV EXIT Concert in Phnom Penh on December 12, 2008. The concert was part of a campaign to raise awareness to end exploitation and human trafficking in Asia.

Personal life

Sovath is married and has three sons: Sovath Monivann, Sovath Monineak and Sovath Sereyvuth. All his sons have entered into the music industry and signed a contract with Rasmey Hang Meas Production in 2018 as its new singers.
