Bavel is an Jewish cuisine-Israeli restaurant in the Arts District neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, and opened in 2018 to critical acclaim by critics such as Jonathan Gold, Bon Appetit, and the Los Angeles Times who called it 2019 Restaurant of the Year[1]
Bavel was founded by Israeli chef Ori Menashe and his American wife, chef Genevieve Gergis, who are also the founders and owners of the restaurant Bestia in Downtown LA, which serves Italian food.
Etymology
The name Bavel comes from the Hebrew word for Babel, the biblical city of excess mentioned in the Torah (Hebrew Bible).
Background
After opening Bestia in 2008, Menashe and Gergis decided they wanted to open a restaurant influenced by the Israeli cuisine enjoyed by Menashe, who grew up in Israel.

Bavel was nominated for a James Beard Award for best new restaurant in the United States in 2019[3]. Bavel was named the best restaurant of the year by The Los Angeles Times. California version of the Michelin Guide, but did not receive any Michelin stars for 2019
