Maccabees Building

Template:Linkless The Maccabees Building is a downtown Detroit, Michigan tower, located at 5057 Woodward Avenue. The building was constructed in 1926, and finished in 1927.
It stands at 15 floors in height, and has a number of uses, including offices, communication, retail, and even has university rooms for the Wayne State University.
The high-rise truss tower was constructed in the neo-gothic architectural style, using a great deal of limestone, much like the Detroit Masonic Temple.
Description
- This building was originally constructed for the Royal Maccabees Insurance, who left the building in the 1960's. The building now houses offices for Wayne State University in Midtown Detroit.
- The Maccabees Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
- The "Lone Ranger" radio show debuted and was broadcast from this building in 1933. It later went on to become a popular T.V. show and had movie spin-offs.
- Some sources put the height from the base to tip of antenna at 450 feet.
- In 1960, after the Maccabees organization vacated the building, the Detroit Public School System took control of it as its headquarters. In 2002, this building was bought by Wayne State University to serve as an office building.
