Edelmann is German for 'nobleman', and is a common surname. Edelman, the Dutch equivalent, is a variant common among those of Jewish ancestry in the United States and Canada, the 2nd 'n' having been dropped at the time of immigration. Other spellings include Eddelmann, Eddelman, Edellman, Edellmann, Adelmann, Adelman, and others.
