Marie's "passing out" issue

Last night on Larry King, Donny revealed that Marie has passed out several times during performances. The only answer she offered as to why she does it, or has done it, is stress. She pointed out that during the dance sequence her father was very ill. Anyway, this is probably something that should be interesting for the article if anyone wants to tackle it. I'm sure there are transcripts out there of the show last night.MagnoliaSouth (talk) 12:46, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I recall some years ago Marie said she had low potassium levels. Perhaps this has something to do with her fainting spells. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.234.133 (talk) 11:08, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Her son Michael's death

I read on the news that he killed himself today. He was 18 years old. Jackass2009 (talk) 22:30, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CNN says the reports of death by suicide are "unconfirmed". Huh? 24.189.90.68 (talk) 03:23, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. That's the nature of breaking news: conflicting reports. The thing is, in these matters, ET is more reliable than CNN. And that can change any second now... Rklawton (talk) 03:32, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to me someone hijacked the personal life section to focus on the misgivings of certain family members without placing emphasis on positive. It reads like the national inquirer. I am saddened by the insensitivity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.108.85.138 (talk) 16:13, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am concerned about the cited reports of Osmond's son. While the chances are probably greater than 50 percent that he died the way that it is being reported, no definite statement has been released by the coroner. While People Magazine has a slightly better reputation than Entertainment Tonight, I believe that in this biography, the only certain fact of his death should be reported.--Morenooso (talk) 02:55, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If reliable sources are reporting suicide as fact, then we can. If the reliable sources are hedging by saying things like "allegedly" (etc) then I agree with you completely. Rklawton (talk) 02:57, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you read the AP story released on Yahoo News, which is consistent with online news sources, (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100228/ap_en_tv/us_marie_osmond_s_son), it reads: Entertainment Tonight reported on its Web site that Blosil jumped to his death Friday night from a downtown Los Angeles apartment building. If you visit ET's website, no definite source which means no reliable source is given (http://www.etonline.com/news/2010/02/84476/index.html). While the police are reporting a unidentified body was found in the area, the AP story reads, Blosil reportedly left a note which referred to a lifelong battle with depression. In the AP story, the victim was not identified and the reportededly note has not been officially released.
In essence, People Magazine has taken an unverified web report and is reporting it as potentially libelous which is thus poorly sourced.
In a nutshell, reliable sources like the AP, CNN and other online news are reporting the facts while mentioning what is being reported by ET. They are taking the road this article of a biography on a living person should:
- the death should be reported but nothing is definitely known other than he is dead.--Morenooso (talk) 03:26, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The web report is from ET - a reliable source. It's not our job to make sure a reliable source has reported their source. We call them "reliable sources" for a reason. And they often won't report their sources if they have inside information so as not to burn their informant. Their own journalism practices, usually revolving around obtaining at least two independent sources, are what makes them reliable. So - as long as ET reports it as a suicide, then it's a suicide until they change their story. Rklawton (talk) 03:30, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am not questioning them as reliable source. But for an addition to be made here on Wikipedia, they are not reliable when the word reportedly is being used by the AP. That is why at the top of this talkpage, the words I used as potentially libelous in the biography are cited: that is Wikipedia policy.
So long as we have ONE reliable source reporting it as fact, then it's fact unless another reliable source contradicts it. If other reliable sources can't confirm it, then they're stuck using "reportedly," and that's their tough luck. But we aren't stuck, so long as we have one reliable source. Lastly, you can't liable a dead person. Rklawton (talk) 03:53, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. Suicide is a very libelous subject. We can't assume everything you mentioned about ET's reported style of investigating and obtaining reliable sources. In this case the reliable sources are:
the police
a witness (if there is one)
Osmond
the coroner
Osmond's lawyer or spokesperson when she releases a definite statement.--Morenooso (talk) 03:59, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why is she listed as "inactive"?

The side box listed her years of activity as 1973-1990. The article then goes on to list a bunch stuff done since 1990. I think a correction is needed. Especially since my wife is watching her on Dancing With The Stars, as I type this, she was a "judge" on Celebrity Duets. She Does not seem to be inactive to me. So I'm going to change her status to 1973 to Present. PainMan 04:18, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is she listed as active since 1962? She made a one time appearance on the Andy Williams Show in 1964, and has only been consistently active since 1973. A few scattered (1964, 1967 and 1972) appearances on stage with her brothers, should be considered "active since". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.234.133 (talk) 21:35, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Main Photo Update Would Be Nice

Ms. Osmond deserves a better main article photo. How do we go about that? Please be nice; I'm new. Clarawolfe (talk) 01:01, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Totally agree. - FlightTime (open channel) 21:50, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

recent statements about sexual abuse as a child

Well, she said it so traumatized her that she felt she might be a lesbian at age nine. (rolls eyes) Whatever - she is on the record, although I haven't dug into the RS's about who she alleges abused her, but it should be in the article in some form under the Personal Life section.
