The England cricket team are scheduled to tour New Zealand between October and December 2019 to play two Tests and five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.[1][2] New Zealand Cricket confirmed the fixtures for the tour in June 2019.[3] The Bay Oval is scheduled to host its first ever Test match, becoming the ninth Test venue in the country.[4][5]
The Test matches are not part of the 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship,[6] with Ashley Giles, the managing director of England men's cricket, suggesting that the tour could have a stand-in captain and coach.[7] However, when the squads were announced, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan were retained as captains of England's Test and T20I teams respectively, but Jonny Bairstow was dropped from the Test squad.[8] Sam Billings was named as the vice-captain of England's T20I squad.[9] Kane Williamson will miss T20I series due to injury, with Tim Southee named as captain in his absence. Trent Boult has also been omitted for the first three of five T20Is, in order to focus on his Test preparations.[10]
Squads
Lockie Ferguson has been named in the New Zealand T20I squad for the first three matches while Trent Boult is in the squad for the fourth and fifth matches.
