"Case" is a song by Nigerian singer Teni. It was officially released on October 19, 2018 and produced by Jaysynths.[2] The song won the Best Pop Single at The Headies 2019.[3]

Background and composition

In 2019, "Case" earned Teni a recognition from video streaming platform, YouTube as trending "Artist On The Rise", thus making her the first African artist to be named such and her videos were promoted to YouTube's US trending page, in social media ads and fan event appearances at YouTube Spaces.[4]

"Case" is an Afrobeats inspired track and was produced by Jaysynths. It's a mid-tempo record and the lyrics revolve around a girl doing the extreme just to get the attention of her crush and also protect him but got turned down by the lover boy who appreciated someone else.[5] The song is primarily in Nigerian Pidgin and a genre pioneered primarily by Nigerian musical style and elements.[6]

Promotion

An accompanying music video for "Case" which was shot outside Nigeria was released on the same day as the audio and was directed by DK.[7][5]

In September 2019, Teni performed "Case" during an event attended by Aliko Dangote in New York, US, and the African richest man danced to the song.[8] During The Headies 2019 Awards night, Teni also performed "Case" alongside Mike Edwards of Big Brother Naija, Season 4.[9]

As of 4 November 2019, the video has garnered up to 18 million views on YouTube.[10]
