Birthdate?

This article is an interview with Mirza published on 3 August 2008, giving her age as 31. That would put her birth in approximately 1977. By this edit to our article, an editor changed the previous unreferenced birth date of 1973 to one referenced to IMDb of 1975.

We thus have three possibilities, and none of them, to my mind, is adequately sourced. I've made no edit on this subject, but I'm calling the problem to people's attention. JamesMLane t c 16:14, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Her facebook lists her birthdate as 3rd October. Technohead1980 (talk) 08:56, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And existing Courier ref from 2016 [1] says "The 36-year-old comedian was born in Birmingham in 1979". I've changed the html comment in the infobox to refer to this Talk page section. Qwfp (talk) 09:30, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This article reads like an advert and it full of puffery. 31.52.252.73 (talk) 19:55, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 14 March 2019

Shazia Mirza's date of birth is 3rd October 1982 yet someone keeps changing it constantly. I am her manager and I need it reverted back to the original date.

Many Thanks

Martin Twomey mail@martintwomey.com SallyH1976 (talk) 03:06, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Born in October 1982? You're taking the proverbial now!

I notice that you're called Martin. That's funny because the last person who claimed to be her manager was also called Martin but that couldn't have been you because that Martin wrote the following in September 2017:

"This is Shazia Mirza's manager- she is 38 years old. Many Thanks. Martin." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Harkinson3

Note - That Martin kept changing her DOB on here too but on that occasion, he kept changing it to 1979 or 1980.

I'd give up trying to lie about her age if I was you because you will never get away with saying she was born in 1982 on here!

I think the solid sources below should override any confused, contradictory claims by people claiming to be her manager and I think her YOB should be given as 1976.

Ron Stowmarket (talk) 00:06, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the Martin going under the name Harkinson3's first edit on here was to say she was born in 1978 https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Shazia_Mirza&diff=prev&oldid=746696691

So is Martin planning to add a year to her DOB as every year passes? I suppose you'll claim she was born in 1984 in a couple of years' time! Ron Stowmarket (talk) 00:13, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Someone should tell him about the Streisand effect. Mramoeba (talk) 09:55, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you are the editor who has been repeatedly changing this information, editors have several times tried to reach out to you to explain what you are doing wrong, and have been getting frustrated at the lack of any response. You cannot just go change information on a page without giving a reliable source WP:RS otherwise how can anyone judge its veracity? The birthdate is sourced in the article, if you are saying this information is wrong please provide a news article, book or similar from a non tabloid source which details the correct date and someone here will update the article. The article is currently locked because of (presumably your) previous edit history. Please also note you are strongly discouraged from editing any page with which you have a conflict of interest WP:COI, including pages of people or organisations with whom you have a financial or personal interest. Please also note Wikipedia does not allow an editor to have multiple accounts in different names. This is known as sock puppetry WP:SOCK and will lead to accounts being blocked. If you think any of these scenarios apply to you please review your editing procedures and declare any conflict of interest on your talk page. Mramoeba (talk) 09:26, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For your information if your client is uncomfortable with her birthdate appearing on her wikipedia page for privacy reasons it is also possible to remove it from the page and leave the year of birth if cited to a reliable source. Mramoeba (talk) 09:33, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The most reliable source I have found is an article from the Times December 2005 which details the age of each member of her family, states she is the eldest and puts her year of birth at either 1975 or 1976 (assuming her d.o.b is october 3rd and the interview could concievably have fallen either side of this. As the interview seems to rely on the sibling relationships I would suggest this was fact checked by the Times. The Independent also gives 1976, the Guardian also gives 1976. Interviews in recent years make her year of birth more recent. Whilst it is conceivable she changed her age when younger (to appear older) it makes no sense in the context of the Times article, (and she has spoken in The FT about her 1970s father) it seems more likely she works in entertainment and may for personal or professional reasons wish to appear younger. Mirza's birth date is last quarter of 1972, as shown here. I am satisfied the entry is correct. There has been a small change of spelling of her first name but a straightforward search for Mirza, in district records Birmingham, brings up the result and that of her siblings as detailed in the Times article, all with the same mother's name and (presumably shared, family) middle name. I will add this to the page now. As user Cabayi pointed out, Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and not a PR service and I hope this concludes this ongoing saga. Good work, Mramoeba!

See what you've done now, Martin! Ron Stowmarket (talk) 22:22, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of page

Can we please remove this page as there's incorrect information which we do not want to publish. Thanks. Khads22 (talk) 10:58, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For the last time Martin, her entry on the births/marriages/deaths website clearly shows her date of birth, the family given (middle) name she shares with all of her siblings, her surname, mothers name which unsurprisingly she shares with her siblings 1 2 3 and place of registration which is also the same. The Times article gives everything one needs if you want to check the members of her family, whom I really would prefer not to bring into this but your repeated vandalism leaves me no choice. No more sock accounts please, you are causing admins work they could be spending elsewhere. Mramoeba (talk) 22:24, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Opening sentence

As with the content dispute at Kate Smurthwaite qv., changes to the standard form 'comedian' should be discussed here, and not changed to 'comedienne' without first establishing a consensus. Mramoeba (talk) 15:51, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I have made a similar comment at Talk:Jameela Jamil. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 17:15, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
They are unusually persistent. It did lead me to changing "comedienne" to "comedian" in a fair few articles (except where it was in a quote, of course). This should make it easier to search for "comedienne" and spot any other instances. Edwardx (talk) 20:20, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
