AfC Accepted notice

Hi Anne. I moved the notice you sent me to User talk:Dumbartonmusic : it was a case of a poor article with copyright issues - speedy deleted as such - user asked for it back (probably at OTRS) - I restored it, killed the copyright violation, moved it to draft space, then let user get on with it. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:22, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Ronhjones. I was using the AfC script, which likes to notify someone when an article is accepted. Looks like the original user never came back - probably just as well, since there were serious COI problems there. If you aren't interested in the page, moving the message seems like a good idea.—Anne Delong (talk) 14:31, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Alice Teichert

Hello, Anne Delong. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Alice Teichert".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 04:00, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Don Morrison article review

Dear Anne, I noticed that you've reviewed Brian Dickinson (climber). Could you please take a look at Draft:Don Morrison (mountaineer) and share your point of view? Thanks! -- Bbarmadillo (talk) 19:00, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Bbarmadillo. I don't know anything about climbing; I didn't review the Dickinson page - I just did a technical fix after another editor changed the page name using an incorrect process.

I took a look at the draft, though, and I have some comments:

  • The article has sections that are written more like a magazine article or a memoir, with phrases meant to dramatize or aggrandize the subject (e.g., "already had the Himalayas firmly in his sights", "ground-breaking expeditions", "driven by his passion for the Ogre").
  • To demonstrate that the subject was a notable climber, the article should contain references to extensive information published about him by journalists or book authors who are not his friends or closely connected climbers. There are some independent references, but some mention him not at all or just briefly.
  • The contents of the article should be a summary of what these independent references found important enough to write about, not what the subject himself or his friends and relatives wanted readers to know.

For a more knowledgeable opinion, I suggest you contact members of WikiProject Climbing.—Anne Delong (talk) 11:39, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for the confusion and thanks a lot for your extremely detailed feedback! -- Bbarmadillo (talk) 18:17, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC has closed with a consensus that candidates at WP:RFA must disclose whether they have ever edited for pay and that administrators may never use administrative tools as part of any paid editing activity, except when they are acting as a Wikipedian-in-Residence or when the payment is made by the Wikimedia Foundation or an affiliate of the WMF.
  • Editors responding to threats of harm can now contact the Wikimedia Foundation's emergency address by using Special:EmailUser/Emergency. If you don't have email enabled on Wikipedia, directly contacting the emergency address using your own email client remains an option.

Technical news

  • A tag will now be automatically applied to edits that blank a page, turn a page into a redirect, remove/replace almost all content in a page, undo an edit, or rollback an edit. These edits were previously denoted solely by automatic edit summaries.

Guideline and policy news

  • The autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) is scheduled to end on 14 March 2018. The results of the research collected can be read on Meta Wiki.
  • Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
  • A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
  • A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.

Technical news

  • CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.
  • The edit filter has a new feature contains_all that edit filter managers may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string.

Miscellaneous

Obituaries

  • Bhadani (Gangadhar Bhadani) passed away on 8 February 2018. Bhadani joined Wikipedia in March 2005 and became an administrator in September 2005. While he was active, Bhadani was regarded as one of the most prolific Wikipedians from India.

Articles for Creation submission

Hi Anne. Is possible that you can add an article for creation submission for wikipedia: Alejandro Correa Rueda, I need your help. Thank you. User:Old Wise/Alejandro Correa Rueda, comment added by Old Wise —Preceding undated comment added 16:52, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
Hello, Old Wise. I took a look at your draft article, User:Old Wise/Alejandro Correa Rueda. I see that it has been moved into your user space because it's not ready to be in the encyclopedia. The draft has a lot of references, but unfortunately they are not the right kind. They have all been written by Mr. Correa himself. To show that a person is a suitable subject for an article in Wikipedia, he or she must have been written about extensively by other professional writers in published works overseen by editors. In the case of a scientist, that would mean articles about his work written by other scientists in peer-reviewed journals, or by science writers or journalists in newspapers and magazines. They don't have to be in English. I did an Internet search, but couldn't find anything suitable; I don't speak Spanish and have no access to academic journals, so I am not the best one to ask for help. You'd be better off asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biology.—Anne Delong (talk) 20:40, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
Hello Anne Delong. No, That page is made by me. I've create this page. I'm a great admirer of this great chilean scientist. Ok, Anne I will go seeWikipedia talk:WikiProject Biology Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Old Wise (talkcontribs) 15:34, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, Old Wise, I wasn't clear. I understand that you have written the text of the page. That's good! It's the numbered citations that appear at the bottom of the page, which are there to back up the facts in the article, which should be references to documents written by other scientists or science writers. I hope that the experts at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biology will be able to help you find some.—Anne Delong (talk) 20:46, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
