Chainat Hornbill Football Club (Thai สโมสรฟุตบอลชัยนาท ฮอร์นบิล) is a Thai professional Association football club based in Chai Nat Province. The club plays in Thai League 2.

History

Foundation

Chainat Hornbill Football Club is a professional football club founded in 2009 by Anucha Nakasai, a former Thai politician. The club was placed in the best management class as a result, it has developed rapidly since the first season. The Hornbills owners ranked third place with contributions coming 20 match wins 12 draws 3 and loses 5 keep 39 points in the Regional League Division 2 season of 2009 the first top scorer of the club is Sanogo Abou with 15 goals, and that was a good start for them to becomes one of the greatest clubs in the northern part of Thailand. In 2012, the club was promoted to the top league, Thai League 1 for the first time.[1]

In 2017, Anucha Nakasai announced the appointment of Dennis Amato the new head coach of the club.[2]

Second Division Champions and Budgetary constraints

In October 2017, The Hornbills finished as 1st in Thai League 2 and promoted to Thai League 1 which was the first time in the clubs' history that they retained the 2017 Thai League 2 title by claiming 67 points.[3]

After Chainat Hornbill promotion to the top tier of Thai football, Amato briefly left the club to take up a role as a director of football at Ang Thong.[4] The club announced the appointment of Drago Mamić the new head coach of the club but Mamić leaving the club by personal reasons.[5] However, Amanto return to Chainat again with many problems of the club a limited players squad and strict budgetary constraints.[6]

A Thai League Survive Campaign: Giant-killing

In 2018, After win against defending FA Cup champions Chaingrai United and they went on to defeat defending Thai League 1 champions Buriram United 0-1 at Chang Arena, The first time that Buriram United had failed to win a league game on their own Home ground since the return of Bozidar Bandovic to coach of Buriram[7] in Thai league 1 2018 season, The club became well-known as "Giant-killing." (Thai lit. จอมล้มยักษ์).[8], The Hornbills under Amanto's football play with giants club by possession game and after losing possession, immediately attempts to win back possession, rather than falling back to regroup - "Counter-press.".[9] [10]

In 2019, the Hornbills beat many Thai league 1 giants, In Home game at Khao Plong Stadium beat Muangthong United, 3–0 beat Bangkok United, 2-1 and beat Buriram United, 2-1.
