Pandit Falguni Mitra is a reputed and erudite Hindustani Classical Vocalist who is known as a foremost Dhrupad exponent of India [1][2]. Pandit Mitra belongs to the Bettiah Benaras Gharana.

Early life

Pandit Mitra was initiated early into music through his father, Sangeetacharya Late Shib Mitra who at the age of five, who was himself trained under the tutelage of Late Pandit Bholanath Pathak of Varanasi.

Education and management

Pandit Mitra earned a Masters degree from St. Xaviers College Kolkata. He had a career in management with a multinational,[specify] following in the footsteps of his father. He also pursued music to an extent to be soon recognized as a pathfinder in his own style of Dhrupad rendition,[by whom?] across Indian and other subcontinents.

Singing career

Initially trained in the Dagar alaap style, Mitra is a performer in the Indian Music University circuit. Known for his mastery in the Dhrupad style of the Betia Banaras Gharana,[by whom?] also known as the most authentic form of Hindustani classical music,[by whom?] he has been critically acclaimed over the last 50 years.
