'Psychiatric rehabilitation involves improving and restoring the functioning and wellbeing of an individual with a psychiatric disability (including mental disorder). The aim is to effect changes in a person's environment, or in their ability to deal with their environment, so as to factiliate improvement in symptoms or personal distress. There is often a focus on social skills and daily functioning, as well as faciliating as challenging stigma and prejudice. The concept is associated with social psychiatry and social work and initatives such as social firms. Similar but sometimes alternative concepts include social inclusion and recovery.
