/* History */ There wasn't a theory which the Bushati family were Serbs. But there were theories that they were from Mirdita, or that they were descendants of the Dukagjini family
Hello there! I thank you for your action but I think you may have done a mistake. There are a lot of sources for the Bushati family that have them as descendants of the Dukagjini family. Bonaparte himself called the Bushati family as descendants of the great Dukagjini family who led the great defence of Shkodra. Plus the Bushati family didn't consider themselves as descendants of the Cernojevic family (even though they may have been salvized Albanians) in fact Mehemet Pashe Busshati Plaku called the Serbs in front of the Austrian envoy (as he was pasha of Shkodra during the Austro-Turkish war) as cowards who don't know how to fight. Strange for a person supposedly had Serbian origins. Well, that was it I hope you reconsider. Besjan Behrami 2005

Please check again the mazlum dogan article. Snowball re-added info, right after you deleted it, but he just added numbers behind the text. No citations added to the numbers. I take it with humor, he is new and it is sure with his best intention, but i'd prefer if you fix it, than if I fix this. Best, and have a nice day :), Lean Anael (talk) 22:54, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

Block IP sock editor request
Hi Material, I have review the article titled Téléfrançais!. Multiple IPs has remove the TVOntario from from the article and I have found two new IPs that act as sockpuppets User:2607:fea8:c2e0:3401:856a:34cc:1125:c38, 2607:fea8:c2e0:3401:e1c8:2bad:9ea1:84e2 and 2607:fea8:c2e0:3401:8822:4fda:2a50:598a. The three IP addresses act as the block user as sockpuppet User:Vincenzou. User:Vincenzou was indefinitely blocked. So for my request could you block IPs User:2607:fea8:c2e0:3401:856a:34cc:1125:c38, 2607:fea8:c2e0:3401:e1c8:2bad:9ea1:84e2 and 2607:fea8:c2e0:3401:8822:4fda:2a50:598a because the three IPs act as User:Vincenzou. The three IPs come from Ottawa, Ontario. Also could you protect the Téléfrançais! article so no IPs with the 2607 to remove the TVOntario edit from the article. I know you block User:Vincenzou indefinitely and rangeblock multiple IPs from Ottawa, Ontario with the 2607:fea8:c2e0 for two years. Note: 2607:fea8:c2e0 have vandalize a lot of Canadian related television articles. Thanks for the urgent message and I will look forward to your reply. Have a great day. 23.16.167.50 (talk) 02:17, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

Hi Materialscientist,
My name is Anton,
Few days ago I tried to add some info about the Virtual Reality related project I'm working on tor a last 4 years. I do have a US patent Virtual reality exercise device Patent number: 9940847. Working all by myself, I was able to put together a working prototype. Device might also be used for those recovering after stroke etc. as it helps to move and even walk. Anybody can learn about this device from my website https://www.hapticpower.com/ I think this is the first real and affordable device that allow anyone to enjoy a full, no restrictions, exploration of a VR world, with full physical presence. However, the paragraph I wrote in a few of related Wikipedia articles was removed and I was temporary blocked. I'm just trying to understand what did I do wrong? Working on this project alone, I couldn't pay for the costly Google adds to move me to the top of the search. That's why there are only few mentioning about my apparatus on the Internet. But I think US Patent is credible enough.
Please review my case and allow me to let people know about this project of mine. If you wish, you might also reach me via info@hapticpower.com Being new to the Wikipedia I'm very open to suggestions and advice.
Thanks in advance, Anton.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.159.162.102 (talk • contribs) 12:58, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

"I think US Patent is credible enough"
You are incorrect. Please see WP:GNG."That's why there are only few mentioning about my apparatus on the Internet"
That's not how journalism works. You don't pay for ads so people write about your thing. They have to decide to write about your thing, and then buy ads to move their writing to the top. Wikipedia is also not a way to boost SEO."Being new to the Wikipedia I'm very open to suggestions and advice."
Leave Wikipedia. You're not here to write an encyclopedia. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:13, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for a prompt answer and Happy New Year. I taught that a true journalism is to promote the credible, relevant and novel information, not to block people based on technicalities. "Leave Wikipedia"? When I said I'm new to Wikipedia, I meant new as an editor and contributor, not as an active user. In fact, when I came up with an idea for my VRealizer-1, the first place I went before even filing for a patent was Wikipedia, to make sure idea is really new and nobody created anything of the same kind. I trust Wiki with all my heart and always believed it is the most accurate and to the point source of information. If US Patent is not good enough to make my information verifiable, I'd be more then happy to offer any additional info(photo, video etc.) about my prototype. I'm not trying to place an ad here, nor make any money. I guess you are a credible source and an influential person in Wikipedia, then why don't you do an investigation and, if it is credible ant interesting, place a paragraph about a VRealizer-1 in the relevant article? To me, that would be a true journalism. Thanks again for answering and Happy New Year. Anton.

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages
The Days of Years (DOTY) pages were becoming a complete mess with incorrect and unverifiable info so things have changed so that all new entries require a direct source.
The DOTY project had exempted themselves from verifiability. As a result, almost none of the pages had any sources to back things up, based on the naive (and against Wikipedia policy) belief that all entries would be backed by reliable sources in the linked article. It turns out that was not the case and the DOTY pages were filled with incorrect info and even worse, other places started believing the info there and publishing the incorrect info in newspapers, for example on "Today's date in history" type listings.
So about two years ago the DOTY project took the bold step of requiring that all new entries be backed by direct reliable sources. Several of us have gone through and started cleaning things up. May 11 is an example of where we want to be. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page.
We could use your help in:
- Preventing new entries that don't include direct sources and when they occur, either supplement them with a reliable source or reverting them.
- Helping us clean up articles. The project members have asked all participants to go through their birthday and clean the entries up by adding reliable sources to each entry, or removing entries where reliable sources aren't readily available.
I hope this helps. Toddst1 (talk) 18:33, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, I have figured this out by now. The trouble lies in is the asymmetry, which newcomers might not understand: new additions do require references, while older, unsourced ones may stay.
- Surely all DOTY entries should be referenced in the future, I doubt this is feasible, given the number of DOTY pages and their dynamics, with a growing number of deaths and births of notable people. Maybe the solution is in referencing wikidata on BLP, and then borrowing those sourced wikidata into DOTY via some transclusion. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 19:05, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Many thanks for all your help.

Account creation blocked?
Per this block, you say it's probably a school, and the note advises creating an account, but the block says account creation blocked. This sounds inconsistent to me. Maybe I don't understand how this works. Dicklyon (talk) 06:00, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- I dont see where I said that. Anyway, we normally dont allow account creation from same IP, otherwise there is little sense in blocking it - the misbehaving editor would create an account too. Regards. Materialscientist (talk) 06:17, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- At this block log I see "05:28, 9 January 2020 Materialscientist talk contribs blocked 160.86.236.39 talk with an expiration time of 3 months (anon. only, account creation blocked) ({{anonblock}} <!-- Likely a school based on behavioral evidence -->)". Not sure whose comment that is. Anyway, I of course understand why one might not want an IP vandal to make an account, but blocking that possibility seems inconsistent with the advice note to make an account. It seems to me that encouraging making an account as a way to get around a block is likely to help vandals convert to real editors. Do we have any data that would help decide which approach is best? Dicklyon (talk) 06:35, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe I got my IP links mixed up. Not sure why I've got different IP addresses or where I saw the note encouraging making an account. Dicklyon (talk) 06:37, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
AIV
Were you working from an old revision of WP:AIV? You just blocked a bunch of IPs that I had declined mostly for only receiving a single 4im warning for minor vandalism. I don't mind if another admin decides to overrule me, but I do appreciate being notified if I'm being reverted. Thanks. Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:14, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, likely an old version (and in rush). I didn't see your declines. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 17:16, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Bizarre incident at Caul fat (of all things)
I am deeply puzzled, and assume you're getting something mixed up? I was I who made the edit on Caul fat - forgot to log in as was working on my phone, then IP 86.28.193.57. Please explain your reasoning for calling my constructive edit vandalism. I refer you to our faggot article: "It is a traditional dish in the United Kingdom,[2][3] especially South and Mid Wales and the English Midlands." Therefore my change from English cuisine (incorrect) to British cuisine (correct) was an improvement. Please explain yourself. Fgf10 (talk) 20:23, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Problem determining whether conflict of interest issues have occurred
About seven years ago I asked a user whether they had a conflict of interest when they were editing Angus & Julia Stone. My rationale was: According to Andrew Murfett, "After seeing an early show, Cathy Oates, an aunt of the Stones and, handily, a former head of marketing at EMI, offered to manage them".source. User:Cathyoates has extensively edited this page and other Stones' related pages. There may be a conflict of interest both as a near relative and a professional representative." I believe that username is no longer used to edit those pages but I'm not sure if other usernames have been used.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:30, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Block Lengths for vandalism
I'll admit this isn't really relevant to a whole lot, but I'm insanely curious how you decide how long to block vandalising IPs for, considering you blocked User:2601:681:4E00:BD80:7053:B25B:FD29:F07B for 12 hours for calling someone a rapist, and saying they deserved to die, but on a different article, you blocked User:5.158.39.149 for 31 hours for adding a couple of exclamation marks...
(And that's not even getting into the fact that User:5.158.39.149 stopped after being given a level four warning, while User:2601:681:4E00:BD80:7053:B25B:FD29:F07B continued.)
To be honest, I don't really understand why User:5.158.39.149 was blocked at all, considering they got a level three warning for the most trivial unconstructive edit I've ever seen (which I honestly think is starting to lean into WP:BITE territory), then a level four warning for almost the same thing, at which point they stopped. Thegreatluigi (talk) 18:44, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- The block aims to stop vandalism and potential further disruption. Every admin decided the time themselves, there is no strict guideline.
- Blocking is a cold-blooded business, so what IPs add has little importance. More important (for me) are technical factors, like potential sharing of the IP, their intent, targeted articles, etc. In your example, 2601:681:4E00:BD80:7053:B25B:FD29:F07B was rangeblocked. The range is short, yet a rangeblock increases the chance of sharing, and this is a Comcast IP, so it has a high chance of editing en.wiki. They edited a controversial and not a highly visible article (note the subject), where "abuse" may be a matter of argument. Meanwhile, 5.158.39.149 is Portuguese IP with low chances of editing en.wiki (I mean by someone different from the targeted vandal), and it hit a highly visible page Portugal.
- All that said, there is no unique formula for a block length. Materialscientist (talk) 18:58, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Removal of Copyright Image from the biography page of "Bhagwan Gopinath"
Dear Editor (aka Materialscientist), I came across your edit in the page "Bhagwan Gopinath" done on Nov 28, 2018 where you seem to have removed the image of the subject biographical personality and it is also seemingly unavailable in the wikipedia resources now. The image was having a copyright but was allowed to be used on the subject Wiki page with permissions that I had sought from the copyright holders. So, I don't seem to understand why this removal or deletion has been done without even posting a message to the image editor (i.e. myself @ Sharda Mandir). Can you now please either undo the edit and also help me recover this image so that it can be reused on the subject page again?
Thanks in advance!
With Best Regards, Sharda Mandir
- The original image page File:Bhagwan Gopinath.jpg had no any sign of the above information. Please email your permission to WP:OTRS and the image will be restored. Regards. Materialscientist (talk) 20:15, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Sunny Dev Anand
Could you clean up the redir at Sunny Dev Anand please? There's no evidence that Dev Anand was ever "Sunny" except for this guy's vandalism.
He also appears to be a x-wiki puppeteer as Itsmywayokok, Sunnydevanand, and Sunnydevanand 1. Sunnydevanand was blocked on commons by Jameslwoodward as a sock of Sunny1629 but Sunny1629 doesn't appear to be a real user. It's only on commons and wikisource that he seems to have edited enough for checkuser confirmation. Could you pursue this please? Cabayi (talk) 11:12, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Aleksandr Shishkin (disambiguation)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Aleksandr Shishkin (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. IP was blocked but their new regular account wasn't, and vandalism continues
Materialscientist, I'm hoping you can block the new account in the same way the old one was.
On January 13, hours after coming off their third block of 2020, IP 80.5.34.111 returned to make two edits replacing valid scores with invalid ones in Strictly Come Dancing (series 11), and then turned to Strictly Come Dancing (series 8) and made the same type of vandalizing edit at 16:55 UTC; this was followed up by another vandalizing edit in that same article at 17:00 by a brand new editor (account created at 16:59), Arnie555. I reported 80.5.34.111 to AN/V, along with the Arnie555 edit; the IP was blocked for six months but nothing was done with Arnie555, at which point I placed a 4im warning on their talk page, noting that as they were almost certainly the same editor (WP:DUCK), any further vandalizing edits would be met with a block.
On January 14, Arnie555 vandalized Strictly Come Dancing (series 10) in 14 edits between 20:12 and 20:44; so far they have 15 edits, all of them replacing good information with bad. (I will be reverting these new ones after I'm done posting here.) I am hoping you can give an equivalent block to what the IP received (six months), and if possible one that makes it difficult for them to create new accounts to continue their vandalism. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:08, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Advice on articles containing lists of scientific papers
I was wondering if you might be able to assist me in getting to the bottom of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I nominated 2020 in archosaur paleontology for deletion at AfD, mostly because I could see no evidence of notability or of content. I am not asking you to review that AfD or even comment upon it. However, the issue for me was that the article and many like it, one for each recent year, contain lists of research papers. These are not reviews but simple primary research from Ph.D theses upwards. If articles with lists like this were repeated across all the scientific topics, it would substantially increase the data footprint of Wikipedia. However, that is not an argument for exclusion. My problem is that I can find no argument that justifies inclusion of these lists of papers, yet the supporters of the page (see Talk:2020 in archosaur paleontology) insist that the content is valid. I would greatly value the view of an uninvolved editor with a sound scientific background to advice me whether I am banging my head against a brick wall and lists of primary research is valid content for a Wikipedia article, or whether I should persevere in trying to improve such articles but removing such lists. If there is another , better placed, editor who you might wish to pass this on to, please feel free to do so. Many thanks for any assistance you can give or any light that can be shone on the issue. Regards Velella Velella Talk 07:24, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Velella. I hope you don't mind me butting in, but Materialscientist is a busy person and may not get around to a reply. Personally, I'm not a big fan of list articles, although in certain cases I can see where they do serve some purpose. This is not one of them. The two big problems I see with this list are 1.) it serves no encyclopedic function and is just a directory, and 2.) it is a directory of future events. I would recommend first studying WP:What Wikipedia is not, in particular WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTCRYSTALBALL --including all the links within-- and that should help you formulate a very good argument for its deletion. Zaereth (talk) 19:46, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Tanha / Taṇhā
Hello, Materialscientist. You recently changed Tanha from a redirect to a disambiguation page. I might be wrong, but I was reading the documentation at Template:R to diacritic/Explanation and it seems to me that the diacritic-free title should be a redirect to the page with diacritics. In that case, the disambiguation could be at Tanha (disambiguation), with the first lines something like:
- Taṇhā or Tanha is a concept in Buddhism referring to thirst, desire, and greed.
- Tanha, Thanha or Thanhha may also refer to:

What is the rule regarding wrong, but good faith, additions to talk pages? Blocked Edits on the Beck Row page
Hi, I am responding to your message today regarding the content that I deleted on the Beck Row page, because I had not left adequate reasons for the deletion. Apologies for this, but if I could explain my reasons here I hope that will help. My son posted some changes to this site on the 19 January 2020, but when I looked at it later I noticed that he had included some inaccurate information and references to street addresses (eg. 17-19 Oak Drive) which are personal information. Naturally he was upset when we explained to him that he should not be posting such things and we subsequently deleted this information in the hope that it would not cause any offence to anyone. I understand that we did not give adequate reasons for this change, and we are fairly new to Wikipedia, so I am happy to take advice on this. Would it be possible to have this information removed please, and preferably not be visible in the edit history? Happy to provide further clarificiation to you if required. Many thanks.

Deletion of External Links
Good morning
I am working in the Burgerbibliothek of Berne (an archive). Today I got the job of adding external links to all major "Nachlässe" (meaning: collection of manuscripts, notes, correspondence, and so on left behind to our archive), that we own. This means very important source material of said (deceased/living) persons lies in our archive! We think it is vital to add the external links of our inventories. As I am new to editing Wikipedia, I might not know all the rules (concerning editing/adding external links). I am sorry if we did something wrong. Could you explain to me, why you had to delete all the 10 or so links we provided? If I read it correctly, you didn't leave an explanation. What would we have to do to greenlight those links?
Thanks for a reply. Yours truly AnnaBillung
