Managing a conflict of interest

There is no conflict of interest other than that I am a member of the Streatham Society, a local history society which covers the area around the school. My interest in the school came about whilst researching its predecessor on the site, the historic Battersea Boys Grammar School. We discussed the newest builds at the site at our last meeting which then indicated to me how old the info was about the school and in the last few weeks I have tried to update it. I also noticed that the new MP for the area went to the school so put that in. 89.197.150.254 (talk) 14:01, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Could I ask you to stop removing the maintenance templates from the top of the article, please? They should only be removed once the issues that they highlight, such as the lack of sourcing, are fully addressed. You also removed templates that specify which variant of English and which date format the article uses. There's no need to do anything now: I've restored them to the article for you. Hi - I see you don't have other Wikipedia edits than the school page in your user history, so thought it might be worth explaining that the maintenance templates cover three distinct issues: (1) COI: that a substantial proportion of the content was put up by someone with COI issues w.r.t the school (L.hammerlit, if you want to see the edits in the page's history) (2) advert: that (as a result of this) a substantial proportion of the content is more like an advert than Wikipedia pages are supposed to be (3) more citations needed: that much of the page, particularly the "Historic" section, is unsourced.
If you were interested in adding sources, particularly for the "Historic" section, then that could sort out problem (3) - but it would still leave problems (1) and (2), since it would mean the content added by the person with a COI was still present.
If you could face tacking issues (1) and (2) too (although it's totally understandable if that's not something you want to get involved with) then might I suggest looking at the pages for neighbour schools in the GDST: Putney High School and Wimbledon High School? If the page for Streatham and Clapham High School resembled them in terms of their relative lack of advertising content, then there would hopefully be no need for the remaining maintenance templates. However getting the page to that point would involve removing a lot of the current material - at a first glance possibly entirely removing the sections "Curriculum", "Sixth Form" and "Findings...".
If any of this is something you can face taking on, it might also be a good idea to discuss removing any templates on the Talk page for the school before actually removing them, because the page has seen a lot of premature template removals and consequent reversions in the past - or pre-checking with someone experienced like Cordless Larry - Thanks, West Streatham Resident (talk) 17:10, 25 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
