The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), will honor the best films of 2019 and is scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.[1] After more than a decade of holding the Academy Award ceremonies towards the end of February, the 92nd Academy Awards is due to take place earlier in the month, on February 9, 2020.[1][2] During the ceremony, AMPAS will present Academy Awards (commonly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories. The ceremony will be televised in the United States by ABC and produced by Lynette Howell Taylor and Stephanie Allain, and directed by Glenn Weiss.[3] Citing the success of the format at the 91st presentation in 2019, ABC announced that the ceremony will again be conducted without a host.[4]
In related events, the Academy held its 11th Annual Governors Awards ceremony at the Grand Ballroom of the Hollywood and Highland Center on October 27, 2019.[5]

The Academy Board of Governors voted in 2019 to move the ceremony from late February 2020 to early February.[1][2]

Nominees
The nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards[6] were announced on January 13, 2020, at 5:18 a.m. PST (13:18 UTC), at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, by actors John Cho and Issa Rae.[7][8]

Ceremony information
During its board of directors meeting in April 2019, the Academy voted to rename the Best Foreign Language Film category to Best International Feature Film. Animated and documentary films will also be eligible for the renamed award (as was the case of Honeyland)[16], but the category will still require nominees to have the majority of their dialogue be in a language other than English.[17][18]
The category of Best Makeup and Hairstyling has been expanded from seven finalists and three nominees to ten finalists and five nominees.[19]
On January 9, 2020, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke revealed that the ceremony would once again forego a host, citing the success of the format at the previous ceremony (necessitated by the withdrawal of originally announced host Kevin Hart). Burke promised that the ceremony would feature "huge entertainment values, big musical numbers, comedy, and star power".[20][21]

In Memoriam
The annual In Memoriam segment was introduced by the President of the Academy David Rubin with Gustavo Dudamel conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic on the notes of the "Over the Rainbow" theme from The Wizard of Oz by Harold Arlen. Zhuang Yi Nan（庄奕楠）, a female singer from Beijing in mainland China and a former member of China Central Television's Galaxy Youth TV Art Troupe, sings.
