Larry Thibeault

Hi, I believe you edited this entry and included his date of death. If so, can you tell me your source for this info? I'm trying to confirm that date and find out more about this NHL player. Thanks.Researchguy (talk) 18:24, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It was Connormah who got the death date in that article. And both him and Marc87 (since I notice you have asked him for dates in the past) I believe get their dates from the Society for International Hockey Reasearch. -DJSasso (talk) 18:33, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. They don't respond to my requests, and I'm just trying to confirm dates and places as there are plenty of errors on wiki for NHLers in general. Oh well, I'll keep looking. Cheers.Researchguy (talk) 19:15, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Researchguy: (Off sick yesterday) The death date does correspond to the SIHR listing for Thibeault. Place of birth is Chartrand Corner, Ontario, Canada. The notes for the player:

Oct. 18, 1944 Traded by Buffalo (AHL) to Detroit for cash.

Traded to Buffalo (AHL) by Detroit for cash, October 17, 1945

Loaned to Montreal by Buffalo (AHL) for the loan of Wilf Field, Kenny Mosdell and Frank Eddolls, October 29, 1945

Returned to Buffalo (AHL) from Montreal and requested that his amateur status be reinstated, November 06, 1945

Signed as a free agent by Hull (QSHL), November, 1945

Among leaders: 1938-39 Sixth-points; 42-43 Second

Became a Quebec Provincial Police officer in Val D'Or, Quebec, in the late 1950s.

SIHR colleague Helen Edwards found through genealogy that LORRAIN LAWRENCE THBEAULT is the full, complete name --- Tony Medici - September 1,2015

- Not much else. Started play with Cornwall in senior hockey 36-37 and played until 51-52 in the ECSHL. Alaney2k (talk) 18:13, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the details. Again, although the SIHR site is great, by virtue of it being so big it also has plenty of errors. I am always sceptical of a date of death without a place--surely one should lead to the other 99% of the time? Do you do a lot of research on hockey players? There are a handful of others whose death dates and places I'm trying to confirm, if you're able to help. If not, no worries & thanks again for this.Researchguy (talk) 19:00, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We have to rely on what we can find for sources. It's an ongoing process and I find errors in lots of sources that are considered reliable. I've corrected the NHL Guide, the Canadian Encyclopedia and other sources. For a lot of players such as Thibeault, that is career minor leaguers, they just fade away and it is difficult to get much information, without actually going to the town(s) they lived in or hoping they write a memoir or something. Sometimes the info comes out in reminiscences of other persons. I might be able to find info if you pass me some names. Alaney2k (talk) 19:12, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's why I'm trying to find obits or death notices for all deceased players because that's the only way to confirm this info and get it correct. Okay, let me give you three names I'm having trouble with: Roger Jenkins (died May 4, 1994), Rollie Paulhus (d. December 30, 1964), snd Bill Carse (d. October 31, 2000). I'd like to find out their city of death, but failing that where they are buried, the funeral home that handled their service, family members still alive, anything that might lead to corroborating those dates of death. Any help, leads, suggestions much appreciated. p.s. Carse did NOT die in Hawaii as some sources say. Cheers.Researchguy (talk) 16:18, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
