Kunwar (Template:Lang-ne) or Kanwar is a surname of Nepalese and Indian people belonging to Chhetri or Mian Rajput caste or Jatt tribe. The name Kunwar is coined to denote a young prince in South Asia region.[1] Kunwar family is a dynasty of Nepalese nobility of Gorkha Kingdom bearing the surname. Kanwar is also found as a Jatt surname in certain areas (Amritsar, Muktsar) of Punjab. Kuwar surname also found in Marathas in areas of Nashik and Khandesh.Probably these surname Marathas were orignated from Rajputs.
