The Dawn of Liberty (Korean: 자유의새벽당) is a far-right political party in South Korea founded in 2018 by Park Kyŏl.
History
The party was founded on 10 July 2018 by Park Kyŏl,[2] who is also the president of a resting place named Lounge Liberty.[3] During this time, it was not officially a political party yet.[2] The official formation was on 9 July 2019,[4] and was officially registered under National Election Commission 6 days after the official establishment.
The party will participate in the 2020 election.[2] Its president, Park Kyŏl, declared to run for Jongro District of Seoul, not as a proportional representation.[2]
Ideology
The party criticises Liberty Korea Party as "too left-leaning" which is "similar to Democratic Party of Korea".[2] It declares itself as "the first right-libertarian political party of South Korea".[5] Although the party does not agree with the illegalisation of same-sex marriage as a "libertarian" party, the party also does not support the Anti-discrimination Law that could prohibit the criticisms toward the issue.[2]
It also seeks to prioritise the locals, and says that the government should not simply give citizenship to any foreigners that can "pollute" the locals.[6]
Its economic policies are also of a libertarian market economy,[4] calling for the private ownership of property, freedom of contract, tax cuts,[7] and the abolition of inheritance tax.[2] The party opposes the government interventions, mentioning that the planned economy cannot overtake the market economy.[7] It also criticises trade unions who "prevent the new employments".[2][3]
Unlike the other right-wing parties i.e. Liberty Korea Party and/or Our Republican Party whom its supporters are usually older than 50s, the Dawn of Liberty mainly targets the young voters[3] who're around 20s to 30s.[2] The party wants to lower the minimum age down to be the President of the Republic, providing examples of Emmanuel Macron (President of France who became in 39 years old) and Jacinda Ardern (Prime Minister of New Zealand who became in 37 years old).[2]
