Requesting change, add Dexter, Reality television, Broadcast engineering and technology and Veronica Mars task forces

Several changes were made though the banner, including Dexter, Reality television, Broadcast engineering and technology, and Veronica Mars task forces which I've added. In addition, I've also added |MAIN_CAT=WikiProject Television articles to populate any articles and pages that are tagged by WP:TV. It is request if could someone please make changes that I've made from the sandbox myself. No need to discuss at the WikiProject. Thanks.  Done (with a small addition) -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:39, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another requested change

Some changes where made, including the Prison Break task force which I've added though the banner in the sandbox, which was previously a WikiProject and converted into a task force of WP:TV back in 2008, due to the that shows should no longer have their own WikiProjects. In addition, I've fixed some of the coding for the Broadcast engineering and technology task force and changed from WikiProject Avatar: The Last Airbender articles and The Amazing Race work group articles to Avatar: The Last Airbender task force articles and The Amazing Race task force articles, and replaced the image for Veronica Mars task force. It is request if could please make changes that I've made from the sandbox myself. Thanks. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 06:05, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting change, add new parameters

A new change has been made throughout the banner, including new parameters like needs-refs, needs-image and needs-synopsis, and also the MAIN_TEXT has been removed and added MAIN_ARTICLE in the banner. It is request if could someone please make new changes that I've made from the sandbox myself. No need to discuss at WikiProject Television. Thank for your time. Please change and sort all task forces alphabetically in the banner. In addition, a MAIN_ARTICLE has been removed and added MAIN_TEXT and To-do-list hook that I've made from the sandbox myself. No need to discuss at WikiProject Television. Thanks. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 08:30, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you assert there no need to discuss this with the WikiProject? Changing the text and adding a to-do list seem to be major changes which warrant discussion. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:03, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Feature brainstorm for Module:WikiProjectBanner

I'm in the early stages of developing a Lua-based replacement for {{WPBannerMeta}}, and I would appreciate peoples ideas for features. If there is anything that you have wanted to do with your WikiProject template, but haven't been able to due to limitations in the meta-template, I would be very interested to hear it. TV movie parameter

Shouldn't a parameter be added to indicate that an article is about a television movie/film (and possibly miniseries) instead of a standard TV series? This seems like a no-brainer to me... --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:27, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Lost task force

I added Lost in the sandbox. I think about changing Template:WikiProject Lost when the addition happens. I already converted the Lost WikiProject into WP:WikiProject Television/Lost task force. --George Ho (talk) 10:01, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done. @George Ho: There were some other experiments in there. It's best to clean-slate a sandbox and use the current live template code before adding requested features. Anyway, I reverted someone else's change that was deleting an image, and merged others' draft changes that were adding "see the docs for how the template works" instructions, in two different places (and removed the misleading claim in that material that template docs are "guidelines"). Your Lost code was used as-is. I've re-set the sandbox page to the code of the live template after integrating these updates.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  19:47, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit request: 1/3/18 UTC

Hi! I noticed two problems with the prose in this template, and I would greatly appreciate if someone who 1) has template editor privileges and 2) is familiar with the source code of this template (I fail both criteria) could fix those problems. Below, I will list what problems I have noticed, so that hopefully someone can help fix them.

Upon placing this template in an article, the following text appears at the top of the template:

This article is within the scope of WikiProject Television, a collaborate effort to develop and improve Wikipedia articles about television programs. If would like to participate, please visit the project page where you can join the discussion. To improve this article, please refer to the style guidelines for the type of work.

The changes that I would like to make (with the removals bolded and the additions underlined) are listed below:

  • Copyedit 1: "a collaborate effort" should be changed to "a collaborative effort".
  • Copyedit 2: "If would like to participate" should be changed to "If you would like to participate".

Thus, the final output text would look like this:

This article is within the scope of WikiProject Television, a collaborative effort to develop and improve Wikipedia articles about television programs. If you would like to participate, please visit the project page where you can join the discussion. To improve this article, please refer to the style guidelines for the type of work.

As stated above, if someone could implement those changes, I would greatly appreciate that!

Thanks!

Adding Holby task force

Hi, I've recently been trying to tie up all loose ends in Project Holby's move from WikiProject to a task force of WikiProject Television. I have added Holby to the template sandbox and would like it to be added to the actual template as part of this transistion. As soon as this is done, I plan on redirecting the template Template:WikiProject Television/Holby task force to here once this is complete too. Thank you, Soaper1234 - talk 13:12, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: Soaper1234, The sandbox you edited was an outdated mirror of the live template. Either you want to re-add some grammatical errors & other changes, or you didn't check the sandbox's output before requesting the change. Have a look at the "sandbox diff" link above. Cabayi (talk) 14:18, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Cabayi: The "sandbox diff" states that I made edits that I haven't and I'm not quite sure why. This is my edit and what I am wanting to implement onto the current WikiProject Television template. Soaper1234 - talk 14:37, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Soaper1234 - No, the sandbox diff shows that the sandbox and the live template differ by more than just your change, not that you made all the changes. As I said before, "The sandbox you edited was an outdated mirror of the live template." That said, I was trying to show you the need to check the sandbox is an up-to-date mirror of the live template before you start work on it.
Your link to "my edit" just points to the most recent change, which is currently mine not yours, and will no doubt soon point to someone else's. Use Special:Diff/ with the change number to point to diffs in a reliable way - see Help:Diff.
Rather than drag this out I've re-mirrored the sandbox, and re-applied your changes. Please check it's what you want. Preferably with a testcase or two. Cabayi (talk) 16:29, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your help Cabayi. That is exactly what I wanted to be done. I've tested it out in a testcase and I'm pleased with it. Like I stated, this is my first time trying to do this form of edit so I am glad you could help me out. One last thing from me, how do I get the sandbox template to mirror the live template now? Soaper1234 - talk 20:17, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to remove attention parameter

I'm proposing the removal of the |attention= parameter from this template. When set, the article gets placed in Category:Television articles needing attention but here it ends. There is absolutely nothing here that says what exactly does this article need and the scope of the category is just too general. In addition we have Category:Television articles needing expert attention which is also too too general in scope in my opinion, but at least the template it works from Template:Expert needed has a |reason= field. Instead we have better specific categories already in place:

If none of this fit, and we really need something (though, at this point it seems that "Attention" just means "Help me make this article better" which is really not a place of a tag), then Template:Expert needed should be enough. --Gonnym (talk) 13:20, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Still more needed?

Gonnym, you just wiped out a bunch of changes I made, which I'll give you I probably shouldn't have done since I forgot you already sandboxed it, but I notice that you've not included support for the channels and shows task forces. Are there plans to fold these in as well, or did I just miss something obvious? Primefac (talk) 19:32, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The British channels and shows are now just all part of the British television task force per Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television#Turning all inactive TV-show Wikiprojects into WP:WPTV taskforces (Part 2). --Gonnym (talk) 19:34, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so those template uses will just be folded into the |british-television= taskforce? Primefac (talk) 19:51, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. I've already redirected the talk pages of those ex task forces to the British television one. --Gonnym (talk) 20:09, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Assuming PetScan is running again I'll start the replacement process shortly. If there are any other task force templates that aren't currently listed at TFDH let me know and I'll add them to the run. Primefac (talk) 20:22, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, an unfortunate oversight in my regex coding. Should be fixed now. Primefac (talk) 21:15, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Primefac: A few more issues with Television needs episode list, Television needs production section, Television needs response section, Television needs character section and Television needs synopsis. --Gonnym (talk) 21:41, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
gaaaaaaaah... fix one issue and another takes its place... Will fix. Primefac (talk) 21:44, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For what its worth, I see this banner supports those templates as fields. Not sure what the difference in them is, but if it makes your life easier maybe just merge them into the banner. --Gonnym (talk) 21:46, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Tempting, but that's a whole different task. Primefac (talk) 22:00, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gonnym and Primefac:, please check through recent changes for breakage. For instance, in this edit, Television episode articles was altered to Episode coverage articles which has left categories such as Category:B-Class Television episode articles empty, and Category:B-Class Episode coverage articles populated but non-existent. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 08:42, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
