Wikipedian in Residence, United States National Agricultural Library

About me:

I've been a Wikipedian for three years, focusing my editing on agriculture, plants, science, women, and art. I studied at Auburn University (War Eagle!) in Rural Sociology (and have my bachelor's from Eastern Illinois University in Sociology). I worked with orange farmers (Satsumas - citrus unshiu) in Southern Alabama where I mapped the history of Satsumas coming to the United States and their eventual Westward spread; while also studying the business structure/effects of the use 2nd and 3rd party logistics providers. I've also worked with community garden projects, outreach support for minority farmers, and other extension/farmer outreach.

About the National Agricultural Library and my role:

The National Agricultural Library is one of the largest agricultural research libraries in the world, and is located in Beltsville, MD. The NAL facilitates the creation of agricultural knowledge through the acquisition, curation, and dissemination of the information needed to assist not only scientists, but the general public. I work to support this mission by helping to organize and make the holdings of the NAL more accessible to the public by making them available to Wikipedia for use in creating and editing articles. When I edit Wikipedia as part of my duties, I strictly abide by Wikipedia's accepted practices on conflicts of interest, neutrality, and notability. While my editing spans many topics (still under the umbrella of Agriculture) I do edit under this name for other institutions and groups during edit-a-thons. My main focus is on improving content and making it more reliable while also sharing important, free (or guiding to places who have access, like the library) resources held in libraries and archives, especially from here at the National Agricultural Library. I will modify my editing behavior based on any issues brought to my attention by other editors.

Disclaimer: I work for the National Agricultural Library, and this is the account I use for edits and statements I make in that role.
