Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Actors and filmmakers
All deletion discussions relating to filmmakers, directors and other non-actor film-related people should now be listed on this page. |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Actors and filmmakers. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Actors and filmmakers|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Actors and filmmakers. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Article is self-created and self-promotional; no notability. Being covered for 2 days in media as a meme and starring in low-budget softcore porn is not enough to warrant an article. Yellow-billed Loon (talk) 17:25, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

- Keep. I agree with people who voted "keep" during the first AfD, less than two months ago. She got non-trivial coverage in a large number of independent third-party sources (currently cited on the page, I removed only one of them after checking). For example, The Cut ([1] and [2]), The Times, Teen Vogue and Vice. The coverage is not just about the Infowars interview, so WP:BLP1E does not apply. Therefore, I think she easily passes WP:GNG. My very best wishes (talk) 19:49, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- Speedy keep. easily passes WP:GNG, already survived an AfD by a significant margin. this is the 2nd nomination from the same user (1st nomination was just last month), who appears to have a personal gripe with the subject. Nomination was unquestionably made for the purposes of vandalism or disruption. Pinchofhope (talk) 03:32, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Delete. Article subject is not notable and I agree that the article seems self-promotional Kokpep (talk) 06:33, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Keep: Per Pinchofhope. Article is good enough to pass WP:GNG. SUPER ASTIG 04:08, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Keep: There are enough reliable sources in the article to pass WP:GNG—sources which also discuss the subject in terms of her career as an actress. Dflaw4 (talk) 04:07, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Keep: The article absolutely needs to be cleaned up, but as it stands it clearly demonstrates notability even if you just look at the sources in the article. Self promotion doesn't override the WP:GNG. Michepman (talk) 02:11, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Fails WP:BASIC and WP:ENT: the current sources are a puff-piece AVN profile/interview and a short, promotional bio of Ms. Lynn in an AVN award listing; please note that porn industry awards no longer count towards anything now that PORNBIO has been deprecated. - Delete. This is yet another case of someone who seems to have had a potentially significant career in the pre-digital era but has an extreme lack of digitally available sources (nor the ability to verify that any others exist). It's quite possible an article could be written if someone had access to the right sources from that era, but as we don't have access to enough WP:RS to even attempt to write an article it's a clear delete at this stage. I'm nominating for deletion on the basis that notability is not inherited. She truthfully lacks independent notability at this time outside of being the daughter of the preeminent French director. The role on Vikings doesn't absolve that. ⌚️ (talk) 18:30, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

- Delete, as notability isn't inherited and she does not meet WP:NACTOR. Utopes (talk / cont) 04:45, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Disagree with deletion, she is an actor, and very talented, clearly she deserves to be listed on Wikipedia. some may not like her father, but it has nothing to do with this young woman, she is starting her career, and I for one wish her all the best. User:Julieprus 03:30, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Julieprus: you should vote keep with your comment if you want her article to remain. Can you find more sources in Polish? DiamondRemley39 (talk) 14:13, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Julieprus: I like it is not valid. Being talented is not criteria for inclusion. It’s about general notability guidelines. ⌚️ (talk) 21:25, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- Keep. I'm seeing coverage in W Magazine, Harpers Bazaar (blog, but one meeting WP:RS) and the UK Telegraph. It is admittedly challenging to use a search engine to find material about her that is not primarily about her fugitive father, but it does seem to be out there if one takes the time to sift. TJRC (talk) 01:55, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- @TJRC: That W wasted so many words to say how her father gave her her first role as a child before throwing in a sentence about Vikings in the end is exactly what I’m talking about. And two more sources doing the same thing. Going on and on about anecdotes with her father but nothing special about her own career. Nothing about that is in the realm of independent notability. ⌚️ (talk) 02:06, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Keep. In addition to coverage in publications, one should look at the list of movies where she played a role. At least three of them are famous, even if she did not play any of main characters. She also played main character in a major TV series. All of that combined makes her passable. My very best wishes (talk) 03:07, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Keep: There are quite a few articles out there which discuss the subject. Though you'll be hard-pressed to find an article that doesn't mention her father, I don't see this as detrimental to WP:GNG, since she is being discussed in her own right as an up-and-coming actress. If anything, it might be a little soon for an article on her, but, since the nominated issue is sourcing, I think notability is made out. Dflaw4 (talk) 03:33, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Keep - she payed a fairly major character on a French TV show. Talent has nothing, I add, to influence notability; we have articles on many bad actors and films. Bearian (talk) 20:46, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Keep. She appears to have enough notability and coverage as an actress in multiple shows and/or movies, and not just as a famous person's daughter. I believe that deleting would be futile, because considering the output and coverage she already has, and assuming she continues to work in similarly distributed and heralded film/TV, she will only continue to maintain, perhaps increase, her notability at least as an actress. Mungo Kitsch (talk) 20:06, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Keep per WP:NEXIST. RS has been brought to this AfD even if it is not in the article. Lightburst (talk) 01:32, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Per WP:NOTRESUME and WP:PROMO. Seems to be a resume type article. Much of the purported notability in the article is unsourced tbh. Most of the citations are primary, could not find anything myself other than some book.google.com searches of novels that he self published. Google search only yields author press bio on Goodreads and Amazon. Editor who maintains the page only edits on other pages that pertains to this guy. Due to the size of the article but lack of citations, I would also assume that the editor is a fan/know the subject. BriefEdits (talk) 04:26, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

- Keep The page seems to pass WP:GNG and I added another few links to reputable reviews and articles about the actress. Given that she's appeared in several films and one notable webseries in addition to other projects, I don't quite agree that it's WP:TOOSOON. I don't see where it fails WP:NPOV either, the writing is very much in keeping with Wikipedia standards (I've certainly never seen a press release that read that way). Weak DeleteWeak Keep: I think it probably is a bit WP:TOOSOON, and I don't think WP:GNG is quite made out. There is a New Indian Express source and a Times of India source (both of which are contained in the article), which provide a little bit more than a passing mention—but I'm not sure about the reliability of Silverscreen, CinemaExpress, Firstpost and in.com. As these sources were brought up by IphisOfCrete and S. M. Nazmus Shakib, if they'd like to argue me over as to why these publications are reliable, I'll happily update my vote accordingly. Dflaw4 (talk) 07:32, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- Dflaw4 I also agree with you that she will not pass WP:GNG. Both Firstpost and in.com owned by a prominent media group Network18 Group. Cinema Express is a fortnightly owned by The New Indian Express. And, we should not consider online portal like silverscreen in that case. I hope you will change your stand!S. M. - Weak Keep: At most, this would be a very weak "Keep". The subject had main roles in two Bollywood films of low-to-moderate notability, so she may pass WP:ENT—but the bigger problem is sources. While the subject is mentioned in a lot of articles (I'm only referring to articles written in English), she is generally mentioned in respect of her famous relatives; few articles talk about her career. - Keep. Not sure how an actress who has appeared in at least seventeen Broadway productions (per ibdb and Brodway World), sixty-nine film credits as an actress ranging from 1908 to 1956 in films released by major motion picture companies such as American Mutoscope & Biograph, Vitagraph, Edison Manufacturing Company, Paramount, Fox Film Corporation, and Warner Bros., and three screenwriting credits for films released by major motion picture companies (per imdb) qualifies as having a "not distinguished career". According to imdb, she had the starring and secondary roles in the first several motion pictures released by American Mutoscope & Biograph as early as 1908, directed by Wallace McCutcheon Sr. and D.W. Griffith. Author Martin Shingler lists her as being being part of fourteen prominent stage actors who were part of Charles Frohman's stock theatre group specifically brought to Vitagraph in the early 1900s in the 2018 book When Warners Brought Broadway to Hollywood, 1923-1939 (some others others being Thomas H. Ince, Clara Kimball Young, Florence Lawrence, Maurice Costello, and Charles Stanton Ogle), as well as being among seven noted for Biograph's earliest stock of actors (including Lionel Barrymore, Mabel Normand, Harry Carey, and Blanche Sweet.) She is also cited in Roy Liebman's 2010 book Vitaphone Films: A Catalogue of the Features and Shorts for her lengthy career as an actress beginning in the 1900s and mentioning of her screenwriting credits. That she doesn't have much of a digital/internet presence, I suspect has to do with her "heyday" being in the 1900s and 1910s. ExRat (talk) 23:13, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

The subject of this article appears to fail WP:DIRECTOR and WP:GNG. The article was deleted in 2018 per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PRAVAT ROUT. I'm starting another AfD rather than requesting G4 deletion because the subject has a couple of additional IMDb credits since the previous AfD was closed.
Although the article introduces Rout as a film director, he has primarily worked as a casting director. As mentioned by Bearian in the previous AfD, this is not something that automatically confers notability. I was not able to turn up any good sources through an online search (this is all I could find, and it consists entirely of an interview with no original reporting). I suggest deleting per WP:TOOSOON. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 18:52, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

- Comment - The submitter has also submitted Draft:Pravat Rout. I have declined the draft as duplicating this article, on account of the previous AFD, and as failing to address notability for creative professions. These roles are relevant in New Zealand, especially within the Māori community. The Māori have their own television network Māori Television on which Matariki has appeared. On February 19 a number of sources were added to the page by IphisOfCrete (thank you, IphisOfCrete!), two of which—the Hollywood Reporter article and the New York Times article—describe the subject in relation to her work. Two other articles I found from reliable sources (https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-call-to-the-park-avenue-armory-1475793786 (Wall Street Journal) and https://ew.com/recap/good-wife-season-3-episode-9/ (Entertainment Weekly)) provide mere mentions, and there are various other mentions and discussions of the subject in less reliable sources, too, such as Broadway World. Delete: Per WP:ENT, there is a lack of notable roles (even in notable shows) that she has done to warrant her own page. Per WP:GNG, while the subject has been mentioned by reputable sources, I do not believe that the coverage (as it stands) is "significant" enough to warrant an entire article about the subject. Right now, it's really only an extended imdb page. Only comment is that I do not have access to the WSJ article, so I can't say much about its content. – BriefEdits (talk) 21:12, 29 February 2020 (UTC)- BriefEdits, the only line of the WSJ that mentions her is "The evening brought out guests like actress Ruth Wilson (with Mr. Ashford), Lynn Wyatt, Jamee and Peter Gregory, Agnes Gund, Bill and Karen Ackman, Chris Mack, Bettina Zilkha, Ziel and Helene Feldman, ICM agent Jennifer Joel and her sister Haley Joel Satnick, Pepper Binkley and Marshall Sebring, Ken Kuchin and Tyler Morgan, Armory President Rebecca Robertson and new artistic director Pierre Audi."

- Dflaw4, only https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/a-night-armor-996155 and https://theweek.com/articles/792623/freezing-there-web-series-about-egg-freezing-didnt-know-needed mention Binkley more than once. I also found https://bust.com/entertainment/195716-its-freezing-out-there-web-series-review.html and https://sheroars.princeton.edu/speaker/pepper-binkley-01/ during research, but they're not great sources. But having spent some much time editing minor actors' wikipedia pages, I do feel like after review, this does pass the bare minimum of WP:GNG and is WP:POTENTIAL due to her being on Fifteen (TV series) for 26 episodes (according to IMDB) and might show up in a magazine review somewhere. For now, I'm changing my vote to Weak Keep, even if the ancillary sources are mostly trivial. — BriefEdits (talk) 07:46, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

- Comment: I didn't previously comment on WP:NACTOR because it was not nominated as an issue (only WP:GNG was), but, in addition to my previous arguments for "Keeping" this article, I would add the following: the subject was a series regular for season 4 of Fifteen and she starred in the 2009 film, Asylum Seekers, both of which appear to be notable productions; and she also had what seems to be a significant role in the 2010 film, Stone, and has starred in a couple of other films of low-to-moderate notability. I believe there is enough here to satisfy WP:NACTOR. Dflaw4 (talk) 14:47, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

- Weak Keep: I think this article is extremely borderline. The subject starred in The Brothers Garcia and appeared in a handful of films and TV shows, but seems to have dropped off the radar since 2004. The Variety article provided is good—it's dedicated to the subject—and there are a couple of mentions with photos in https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/09/us/when-hollywood-is-your-mirror.html and www.mtv.com/news/2278834/old-nickelodeon-shows-you-forgot-about/. Apart from that, I can't really find anything else. Therefore, only a very weak case could be made for WP:GNG or WP:ENT. He was, however, nominated for an ALMA Award and Young Artist Awards, and he won a Young Artist Award, but I'm not sure if these awards are notable enough to satisfy WP:ANYBIO. Even so, they could go towards his general notability. Dflaw4 (talk) 07:26, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

- Weak Keep: I'm conflicted over this one. The subject, as the nominator points out, likely fails WP:NACTOR because he only has one main role in a notable production—but that main role was the lead in a well-known Disney production. As for WP:GNG, he is mentioned in many articles in respect of the film, including articles on Google Scholar, in books, and reviews by Variety (https://ia601005.us.archive.org/4/items/variety206-1957-05/variety206-1957-05.pdf) and The New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/1957/07/11/archives/johnny-tremain-at-neighborhood-houses.html). He is also quoted in some books in his capacity as a talent agent (https://books.google.com.au/books?id=FUdZAAAAYAAJ&q=%22Hal+Stalmaster%22+-wikipedia&dq=%22Hal+Stalmaster%22+-wikipedia&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi70N_hktDnAhXYF3IKHUupBkUQ6AEIXjAG; https://books.google.com.au/books?id=1ex5ESBl4hkC&q=%22Hal+Stalmaster%22+-wikipedia&dq=%22Hal+Stalmaster%22+-wikipedia&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi70N_hktDnAhXYF3IKHUupBkUQ6AEIczAJ). - Delete Not notable. I couldn't find anything that shows this article is notable. TheAwesomeHwyh 03:31, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- Weak Keep: I think the subject passes WP:NACTOR—she's played supporting roles in some big films, including Dark Skies (film) and Hanging Up, as well as dozens of guest spots in TV series and smaller roles in several other films. The argument for WP:GNG is a bit weaker, because most of the sources I am finding simply mention her with respect to her roles—but, there are quite a few sources, from Broadway World and Los Angeles Times, among others. The article itself needs some work, but I don't think deletion is necessary in this instance. Dflaw4 (talk) 04:56, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
- Her guest roles and smaller roles wouldn't come in to play with WP:NACTOR. I see she had supporting roles in those two films, but I'm not seeing evidence that her role in those movies were significant. Broadway World wouldn't be considered a reliable secondary source. And what La Times article are you referencing? The only two I see only mention the person in a WP:ROUTINE manner and wouldn't constitute the substantial coverage required by GNG. Sulfurboy (talk) 09:45, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
- Right, Sulfurboy, but they do show that the actress has a fairly large body of work, and there are a few more films in which she has had supporting roles, too. I generally consider supporting roles in notable films to be "significant". As for the Los Angeles Times articles, they do seem to be fairly routine, I agree: https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2019-09-10/new-movies-opening-in-la-this-week-sept-15-22-brad-pitt-ad-astra-downton-abbey-Rambo; https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-thursdays-tv-highlights-working-the-engels-on-nbc-20140820-story.html. There are more substantial articles, too, although they come from less reliable sources. But, putting it all together, I think there is enough for a "Weak" Keep—certainly not a "Strong" Keep. - Seems to be a borderline keep. I agree with Dflaw4 that being a supporting actress in so many movies is an indication of notability. However, relatively little can be found about her in RS. My very best wishes (talk) 22:27, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

- Delete The coverage of her is minimal, so the article fails WP:GNG. It is not obvious that her supporting roles reaches the bar set by WP:ACTOR. I see that our article and imdb give different birth years (1971 vs 1975), so there is definitely also a question about our ability to write a verifiable article. - Keep: I believe the subject passes WP:GNG, with several articles dedicated to her, including at least 2 Times of India articles. The page does need some work, though. (Personally, I think a nomination argument of failing WP:NACTOR would have been more compelling; however, she did appear in all 269 episodes of the Indian soap opera, Tumhari Paakhi, and she starred in the Bollywood film, Falsafa: The Other Side. She also appears to have had some minor success as a model.) Dflaw4 (talk) 05:17, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

- Weak Keep: The subject is mentioned and discussed in a number of Times of India articles, such as https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/telugu/movie-reviews/ee-nagaraniki-emaindi/movie-review/64785903.cms, where he is praised for his performance in Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi. He starred in that film, which seems to have been quite notable, and has had supporting roles in a number of other films too, so he might just pass WP:NACTOR. He appears to be an up and coming actor, so I'd be willing to let the article stand. Dflaw4 (talk) 11:09, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- Keep as has some prominent roles in notable films as confirmed in reliable sources such as national newspapers such ss Times of India and others and therefore passes WP:NACTOR so that deletion is unnecessary, imv Atlantic306 (talk) 18:43, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- delete according to the wikipedia article, the subject has 10 credits as film actor. According to my search, the subject has only two significant roles (in the movies released is 2017, and 2018). Out of 10 credits, the wikipedia article cant name 5 of his characters, and one credits as "cameo as a psychiatrist". Notability guideline for actors requires
significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions.
Our subject doesnt have it. Verifiable existence doesnt mean notability. To achieve notability significant coverage is required; which the subject doesnt have, therefor subject fails general notability criteria as well. Also per user deflower: WP:TOOSOON. —usernamekiran (talk) 21:35, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

- He has three prominent roles in notable feature films, third in the credits of Meeku Maathrame Cheptha, fourth in the credits of Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi, and third in the credits of Malli Raava which is enough for criteria 1 of WP:NACTOR imv Atlantic306 (talk) 20:06, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Atlantic306: Hi. Like I said in my vote/comment above, he has prominent roles only in Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi, and Malli Raava. I will provide the sources in a few hours. —usernamekiran (talk) 10:14, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- usernamekiran(talk), I'm not clear on your position. Are you arguing that the subject fails WP:NACTOR because he does not have "multiple" significant roles in notable productions, or because the roles themselves are not "significant"? Dflaw4 (talk) 06:27, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

- Delete per Nom and usernamekiran. My location may present some sourcing bias, as I could only verify what has already been shown, but links to "YouTube", "idlebrain" (2), and "facebook" does not satisfy the WP:BLP sourcing criteria. Lacking basic biographical content such as age makes this a pseudo-biography. The previous comments seems to center around what "minimum degree" of bare notability there might be. A lack of reliable and independent sources seems to indicate it might be WP:TOOSOON. Otr500 (talk) 15:50, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- Keep. Satisfies criteria 1 of WP:NACTOR and WP:SIGCOV with three significant roles in three films as supported by multiple articles in The Times of India. My WP:BEFORE search yielded numerous articles verifying that content.4meter4 (talk) 14:45, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

The result was keep. Consensus is keep, but not by a wide margin. Notability is not relational. Consensus is that NACTOR is met and that GNG is met through some of the available, unchallenged sources. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 16:19, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

- Keep: True, the subject owes some of his notability to his son, but I feel he probably deserves an article based on his own career, too. He's played many supporting roles in notable films, so I feel he would just get through under WP:NACTOR. He is also mentioned/discussed in various articles from the following news outlets: Sify, The Hans India, The Hindu, The Indian Express, and more. There doesn't seem to be a consensus on the reliability of these sources, however, so I would welcome feedback from others and will update my vote if necessary. - Delete Definitely fails WP:GNG and breaches WP:NPOV. I agree per nom that the person is not notable compared to his son Anirudh. Abishe (talk) 15:43, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Abishe, it shouldn't matter whether the subject is notable when compared to his son, but rather whether he is notable as per the notability standards. If you believe he fails WP:GNG, that is fair enough, but being less notable than his son isn't relevant to the policy, as I understand it. Also, a breach of WP:NPOV can be addressed without deleting the entire article. Dflaw4 (talk) 04:36, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
