Aims

Pages we're editing

Below are five lists of the pages the group has identified for editing. If you're very short on time and want to do something immediately useful, you might want to stop reading here and go straight to the group watchlist (at the bottom of the page) and follow the instructions there.

The five lists roughly coincide with the amount and type of work that we think each page needs, so that editors can more easily find something to work on that fits the amount of time/energy/inclination they have available. If you think an entry is on the wrong list, or after your work on the page the entry needs moving, please do so!

You can also help to make the work of women classicists more visible in other ways such as:

- adding references to their scholarship on other pages;

- adding works by women translators to the lists of translations which feature on the pages referring ancient texts;

- ensuring that if their names appear in other entries they are linked to their Wikipedia entry;

- checking the entries for men with whom they were/are associated (e.g. as spouse, sibling, parent/child) and ensuring that there is correct information about the woman scholar.

Women classicists pages to edit, create or expand

Before you begin editing, remember to check the Dropbox for resources on some of the individuals in this list.

Please add the page you have edited to the monthly lists found in the 'Welcome' tab under 'Outcomes'.

If you do create or make edits to a page, please add the category 'Articles created or improved during Women's Classical Committee Wikipedia events' to the page. You can do this by copying and pasting Category:Articles created or improved during Women's Classical Committee Wikipedia events into the category section at the bottom of each page. This allows us to monitor progress of the initiative.

When you think the page you have edited is complete, please move the entry to the group watchlist at the bottom of the page, and put the date in brackets after it so that it's clear how recently it was created or updated. Getting a page to this point is an achievement!

If you add names to any of these lists, please first search the page to check that you are not adding a duplicate entry, and insert all names in alphabetical order of surname.

Nb. entries with [Book Image] have one or more images of relevant book covers inserted in the page. Please feel free to add to this initiative.

New Pages to Create

The Women's Classical Committee Wikidata redlist lists 400+ missing biographies.

Group watchlist

These are pages that are now at a point where they are substantial and up to date and the need is for them to be kept current and quality controlled. There are two lists: active and deceased. The 'active' list should be checked more frequently as there may be (e.g.) new publications or other references to add.

To use the lists:

  1. visit the page history and compare the different versions
  2. make any updates or corrections necessary. If you find substantial work is needed and you haven't time, you can move the entry from here to one of the lists above.
  3. if someone has improved the page since it was checked, consider using the button on the page history page to thank them
  4. put the date the page was checked in brackets after its entry below.
