Paula Klien
Paula Klien, (Rio de Janeiro, August 23, 1968) is a Brazilian artist, inserted in the context of contemporary art production.
Biography
Drawing and painting were the first aesthetic manifestations present in Paula Klien's life, who also worked with dance, music and studied Law. During her career, she studied at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (EAV) in 1982. She later studied art history with Professor Marcos Campos and, in 2016, took up artistic residency at the KUNSTGUT School of Visual Arts in Berlin.
As a photographer, the artist participated in a laboratory and professional preparation for nature's weather with photographer Steve McCurry in New York. Was agency by ABÁ MGT, conducting campaigns and fashion editorials. She has published two portrait books, titled “Pessoas Me Interessam” (2010) and “It's Raining Men” (2014), and has participated, by invitation, in other works.
Paula was present in several cultural centers, showing her work in collective and some solo exhibitions, such as "Edible" and "Gatos & Sapatos". She also participated in two Biennials in Italy, at Florence and Rome, between late 2011 and early 2012.
A member of Abrafoto and represented abroad by Production Paradise, she has clicked a large number of models and personalities in Brazil and abroad. This is her last portrait of Oscar Niemeyer, in his room, at 104 years-old, days before his death.
Paula's career as a visual artist is marked by a series of exhibitions at major art centers around the world. In 2017, she had the opportunity to exhibit her work in Berlin, on three occasions: at the solo exhibition of "invisibilities"; at a press conference at aquabitArt Gallery, the gallery that represents it in the city; and a participation in the Positions Berlin Art Fair next to the gallery.
That same year, she exhibited her works in New York, at the invitation of Clio Art Fair; in Buenos Aires, with the Emmathomas Gallery, in arteBA ; and in London, in a crowded solo performance at the Saatchi Gallery.
Also in 2017, Paula was also present in the national territory, participating with the Aura gallery of PARTE - Contemporary Art Fair, in São Paulo.
In 2018, the artist returns to Germany for three more exhibitions. This time, she participated in the Papers Positions Berlin exhibition, and in conferences at aquabitArt Gallery and Deutsche Bank Finance. She also visited Italy again, where she participated in the Salerno Art Biennial.
In Brazil, her work was also exhibited several times in 2018. With the gallery Emmathomas, participated in the exhibition "Desver a Arte". She then exhibited a large work, more than four meters wide, in the living room of architect João Armentano, in CASACOR - São Paulo. She also exhibited works at the Rio de Janeiro International Art Fair, ArtRio.
Paula was the only Brazilian invited by the State Grid multinational to participate in the "Pincel Oriental" exhibition, at the Correios Cultural Center, together with renowned Chinese painters.
In 2019, she participated in the exhibition “Ognuno il suo stilo, l'arte il senso della vita” (Each one with their own style, art and meaning of life) at the Correios Museum in Brasilia and had works exhibited at CASACOR Paraná .
She is currently preparing for an individual exhibition at the Correios Cultural Center - RJ, which will be open to the public in December, curated by Denise Mattar.
For 2020, Paula Klien prepares for an individual exhibition at the Bianca Boeckel gallery in São Paulo. In Brazil, she will also participate in the São Paulo International Art Festival - SP Arte, at the Bahia Modern Art Museum (MAM-BA); and, internationally, will exhibit individually at the aquabitArtgallery in Berlin.
