During 1971-72 season Juventus competed in Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup.

Summary

After 5 years of the last local victory, in 1972 Juventus clinched its 14th league. The league title race kicked off as an open affair with as many as five sides thought to be real contenders: Juventus, Milan, Torino, Cagliari and reigning champions Inter.

Cestmir Vycpalek’s Bianconeri began the campaign in impressive form, registering nine wins from their opening 11 games, including crucial victories over top of the table rivals Milan (1-4) and Torino (2-1).

However, a run of just five triumphs in the following 15 matches brought Juve back to the chasing pack and set up a tense final run-in. Vycpalek’s side were trailing their inter-city rivals by a point with four fixtures remaining but then displayed what true champions are made of. A Causio hat-trick led the Bianconeri to a comfortable 3-0 success over Inter, meanwhile Torino lost to Milan.

Juventus managed to hold onto that one point lead until the final match of the campaign and then secured a 14th Scudetto title when Haller and Spinosi got on the scoresheet in a composed 2-0 victory over Vicenza. This was one of the closest fought Scudetto title races in Serie A history and come the end of the season, just one point separated Juventus from Milan and Torino. [2]
